William E. “Bill” Petry, 60, of 187 W. Main Street, died early Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at his home after a long illness.
Bill was born December 8, 1939 in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of Edward and Pearl (Dunn) Petry. He retired from Empire-Detroit Steel Co. in Mansfield after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Dean Road Freewill Baptist Church in Mansfield, the United Steelworkers Local #169 and the Johnny Appleseed Wood Carvers Club. Bill was a talented and well-known wood carver having won many awards for his carvings. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bicycling.
Bill is survived by his wife, Karen Sue (Lewis) Petry, whom he wed on June 25, 1960; 1 son and daughter-in-law: Timothy and Shannon Petry of Cincinnati; 2 daughters and son-in-law: Kimberly and Vincent Sweet of Shelby, and Tanya and Jon Moyer of Galion; 4 grandchildren: Jory and Molly Sweet and Tiffany and Brooke Moyer; 2 sisters: Evelyn Ward and Phyllis Henry both of West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert Petry.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Elrita W. Pry, age 102, formerly of 70 Park Village, died Thursday evening in the Heritage Care Center. She was born September 2, 1889 in Crestline, the daugher of Simeon R. and Ida (Newell) Wachs.
Mrs. Pry taught in one room school houses in Crawford County prior to her marriage. She was a member of the Tiro United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Missionary Society and the Ladies Aid Society. She was a former Sunday school teacher and had served on the Election Board.
Mrs. Pry is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law: Warren and Mary Pry of Shelby,
and Lewis Eldon and Carol Pry of Crestline; 2 daughters and a son-in-law: Florence Hannafus of Shelby and Letha and Leonard Brundage of Mansfield; 13 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; 1 brother: Paul Wachs of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Pry in 1981; 1 granddaughter, 3 brothers, . and 2 sisters.
Calling hours will be today from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 2:00 p.m. funeral on Saturday at the Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Netty Burkey, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Biddle Cemetery, Crawford County, Ohio.

David T. Reed, age 45, of 4331 Plymouth-Springmill Road, Shelby, died unexpectedly Monday in Firelands Community Hospital in Sandusky. He was born October 2, 1946 in Shelby.
Mr. Reed was an employee of Copperweld-Shelby Division, and prior to that he had been an employee of the Ohio Power Company. He was a member of Clay Memorial Lutheran Church and was a 1964 graduate of Shelby Senior High School. He was an Army verteran. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Shelby Owls Club, American Legion O’Brien Post #326, and Shelby Amvets.
Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Kathy L. (Ryland) Reed, whom he married on February 11, 1967; 1 son: Michael S. Reed at home, and 1 daughter: Michelle L. Reed at home; his mother Mary E. Reed of Shelby; 1 brother: Mark E. Reed of Shelby, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Donald J. and Doris Ryland of Shelby.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph E. Reed in 1977.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at the Clay Memorial Lutheran Church with his pastor the Rev. Herbert S. Garnes, Jr., officiating.

Dean L. Roth, 72, of 29 Clark Ave. died Saturday afternoon in Crestwood Care Center after a long illness.
Born Aug. 1, 1914, in Shelby, Mr. Roth had lived in Shelby all of his life. He had been a city fireman, retiring in 1975, and had been a former bus driver for Shelby schools. A World War II veteran, Mr. Roth had belonged to the Shiloh American Legion and the Marblehead VFW. He was also a member of the First Christian Church and the Shelby Junior Order.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Worthington Roth, whom he married June 6, 1936; a son: James of Shelby; a daughter: Mrs. Richard (Judy) Messner of Shelby; six grandchildren; and three sisters: Doris Palmer of Savannah, TN, Eva Jane Rousch of Galion, and Margaret Winkle of Northfield, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Wanemeah Denny.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home by his pastor, the Rev. C. Reid Miller. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven. Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour before Tuesday’s services at the funeral home.

Evelyn L. Rudolph, age 71, of 53 Sunset Drive, Shelby, died Monday, January 27, 2003 at her home.
She was born April 22, 1931 in Olmstead Falls, Ohio the daughter of the late Dwight H. and Florence G. (Roglitz) Klinect. Evelyn was a graduate of Olmstead Falls High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and enjoyed traveling.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Gordon Rudolph, whom she wed on September 5, 1952; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl and Ted Steinman of Nashville, OH and Tami and Richard Dannemiller of Willard; 1 son, Ronald Rudolph of Worthington, OH; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Al Jungeberg of Columbus, OH; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Judy Klinect of Merritt Island, FL. She was preceded in death by a sister Eileen Wagemaker.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 29, 2003, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby and on Thursday from 12:30-1:30 PM at the First Lutheran Church, 33 Broadway, Shelby, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM conducted by Rev. Allen E. Sexton, 69, formerly of Hilborn Ave., Tiro, died early Saturday morning in West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Sulphur, LA.
He was born December 23, 1918 in Richland County, the son of James and Nancy (Tackett) Sexton. He was a retired employee of the Ohio Steel Tube Co. and a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife: Ula (Kelley) Sexton of Sulphur; one son: Richard Sexton of Shelby; three daughters: Mrs. Jim (Mary) Sallier, Mrs. Lowell (Leslie Dawn) Johnson, and Mrs. Bruce (Janice) Neptune, all of Sulphur; three step-daughters: Mrs. C.G. Dugas and Mrs. Jeanette Moss, both of Lake Charles, LA, and Mrs. Saundra Leger of Sulphur; one brother: Lester E. Sexton of Indiana. 8 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife: S. Louise (Prater) Sexton and one son, Stephan, both in 1976. He was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, 1 sister, 1 half-sister, and 2 step-brothers.

Mary E. Shepherd, age 76, of 52 West Park Drive in Shelby, died early Tuesday morning at her home after an extended illness.
She was born June 1, 1917 in Shelby, the daughter of Cecil and Francis (Waghorn) Lybarger.
Mrs. Shepherd was a homemaker and was a former employee of the Autocall in Shelby and the Norwalk Truck Line.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Shepherd, whom she married on August 19, 1955; 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law: Cathy and James England of Galion, Rev. Sue Chandler and
Carol and Gerald Ferguson all of Shelby; 1 son and daughter-in-law: Fred “Jan” and Toni Fair of Norwalk; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 1 brother: James Lybarger of Shelby; 2 sisters: Madeline Shepherd and Barbara Gwirtz both of Shelby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Richard Allan Fair; a grandson, Patrick
Fair; grandaughter, Christina Hoskins; 2 brothers: Robert and Fred Lybarger; and a sister Betty Kulka.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 A.M. at the Taylortown Community Church with the Rev. Dr. Edward N. Beck, officiating. Public Calling hours will not be observed.

E.L. Snider, 90, of 70 N. Gamble St., died early Thursday morning at his home following an extended illness. Born Aug. 19, 1895 in Ada, he was the son of Frank and Susan (Hoy) Snider.
He had been employed as a Railway Express agent in Lima and Saint Marys and Sewickley, PA before being sent to the Shelby post, from which he retired in 1962.
After his retirement, he was an employee of the First National Bank of Shelby. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Shelby. He fought in the battle of Vittoria-Venteto in Italy during World War I and was a member of Shelby American Legion Post No. 326.
Survivng are his two sons: Dr. Edwin F. Snider of Salem, OR, and Dr. Richard T. Snider of Portland, OR; two daughters: Mrs. Kenneth J. (Peg) Shoos of Shaker Heights, and Mrs. Robert
E. (Jo) Cottrell of Shelby; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva I. (Poling) in 1976; two sisters, and one brother.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ada. Memorial services will not be held until Dec. 7 at the First Lutheran Church.

Morgan T. Stewart, Sr., age 88, of 53 Vernon Road, Shelby died early this morning in the Crestwood Care Center after an extended illness. He was born May 28, 1901 in Clearfield, KY, the son of Morgan T. and Mary J. (McClurg) Stewart.
Mr. Stewart is a retired employee of the Ohio Steel Tube Corp. in Shelby. He was a charter member of the Taylortown Community Church.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Mottie (McClain) Jones Stewart, whom he married on October 23, 1944; 1 son, Morgan T. Stewart, III of Shelby; 4 daughters: Mrs. Mary Smith and Mrs. Winford (Dorothy) Barber both of Mansfield, Mrs. Corlena Haskins of Detroit, MI, and Mrs. Harold (Alberta) Burks of Shelby; 14 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; 1 stepdaughter, Rozella Burns of Oklahoma City, Oaklahoma; 1 step son, Bill Jones of Muncie, Indiana; 2 brothers: William Stewart of Shelby, and James Stewart of Florida; 1 sister, Ethel Crager of Clearfield, KY.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

The Rev. Edmund C. Sutter, 81, of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, who was born in the shadow of Bethlehem’s Catholic Church and grew up to serve as a priest, died at 9:05 a.m. Saturday in Crestline Nursing Home after a one-year illness.
A graduate of John Carroll University in Cleveland, he later attended Scared Heart Seminary in Shelby where he was ordained Feb. 24, 1945 for the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. He spent his religious life serving parishes in the Reading, PA area, but upon his retirement, returned to his home in Bethlehem where he helped serve at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church until his health declined.
Surviving are a brother, Norbert of Crestline; four sisters: Sister Mary Rosalind of Fostoria, Sister Mary Joan of Thousand Oaks, CA, Mrs. Harold (Florence) Hafer of Shelby, and Mrs. Cecilia Gardner of Strongsville; 12 nephews; nine nieces; two sisters-in- law: Mrs. Paul (Ethel) Sutter of Strongsville and Mrs. Charles (Joan) Sutter of Crestline, with whom he resided after his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry E. and Anna C. (Cowl) Sutter; one sister, and two brothers.
A concelebrated Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Bethlehem. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call 2-4 today and 7-9 tonight at the Turner Funeral Home or at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday. Devotions will be held at 8 tonight at the funeral home.
