William E. Petry

William E. “Bill” Petry, 60, of 187 W. Main Street, died early Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at his home after a long illness.

Bill was born December 8, 1939 in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of Edward and Pearl (Dunn) Petry. He retired from Empire-Detroit Steel Co. in Mansfield after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Dean Road Freewill Baptist Church in Mansfield, the United Steelworkers Local #169 and the Johnny Appleseed Wood Carvers Club. Bill was a talented and well-known wood carver having won many awards for his carvings. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bicycling.

Bill is survived by his wife, Karen Sue (Lewis) Petry, whom he wed on June 25, 1960; 1 son and daughter-in-law: Timothy and Shannon Petry of Cincinnati; 2 daughters and son-in-law: Kimberly and Vincent Sweet of Shelby, and Tanya and Jon Moyer of Galion; 4 grandchildren: Jory and Molly Sweet and Tiffany and Brooke Moyer; 2 sisters: Evelyn Ward and Phyllis Henry both of West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert Petry.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Virgil Masters officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1605 County Road 1095, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
