Joseph M. Kreim

Joseph M. Kreim, age 57, of 2916 State Route 39, Shelby, died Tuesday afternoon at his home after an extended illness. He was born November 6, 1934 in New Washington, the son of Edward M. and Louisa M. (Durnwald) Kreim.

Mr. Kreim retired in October of 1990 from the R.R. Donnelley and Sons Company in Willard after 32 years of service. He was a member of Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church and was a member of the national rifle association, and was active in the Richland County Conservation League. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Kreim is survived by his wife Carol (Bumb) Lepley-Kreim, whom he married on April 10, 1985; 1 son and daughter-ln-law, James and Susan Kreim of Shelby; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Greg Vogt of Shelby and Ann and Shannon Bailey of Westerville; 2 grandsons, Eric and Cory Vogt; and 2 step grandchildren, Molly and Andy Mahl; 1 step-son, John Lepley at home;
2 step-daughters, Kim Lepley of Columbus and Kelley Lepley or Cincinnati; 4 brothers: Richard Kreim, John Kreim and Gerald Kreim all of New Washington, and Virgil Kreim of Tiffin; 5 sisters: Mrs. Harold (Arlene) Bechtel of New Washington, Arvilla Karl of Tiro, Esther Kreim of Columbus, Catherine Kempf of Shelby, and Mrs. Walter (Dolores) Tackett of Willard; his mothers-in-laws, Alvena Kempf of Crestline and Lucille Bumb of Bellevue.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary (Kempf) Kreim in 1983.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home where a Christian wake service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 A.M. at Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church by his pastor, Father John C. Missler. Burial will be in Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial expressions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Shelby Public Health League and left in care of the funeral home.

Leon S. Laser

Leon S. Laser, 70, of 27 Sixth St., died Saturday morning at the Crestwood Care Center after an extended illness.

Born Aug. 29, 1914 in Oslo, MN, he was the son of Charles F. and Anna (Dallum) Laser.
He was employed as a carpenter with Fred Mellick contractors. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Shelby. A World War II army veteran who served in Africa and Italy, he was a member of the Disabled American Verterans Organization.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie (Nohlquist) Laser whom he married May 2, 1941. Also surviving are three sisters: Laura Baker of Shelby, Mrs. Charles (Bernice) Raiser of Ganges, and Mrs. William (Dagmar) Wickiser of Ashland; and three brothers: John of Loudonville, and Charles and Bernard, both of Tucson, AZ.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Charmian Mellick.

Graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ganges Cemetery with the Rev. M.P. Paetznick officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Memorials may be made to the Shelby Public Health League or the Ohio Lung Association. The Turner Funeral Home, Shelby, is in charge of the arrangements.

Florence L. (Brinkerhoff) Lego

Florence L. Lego, 90, formerly of 23 Smiley Gardens and recently a resident of Crestwood Care Center in Shelby, died Thursday afternoon in Shelby Memorial Hospital.

She was born Jan. 26, 1903, in Plymouth to Mortimer S. and Grace Kinney Brinkerhoff, both now deceased. She was a homemaker, a member of the First United Church of Christ in Shelby, and the Rizpah Chapter 153, Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are a sister, Bernice Smith of Shelby; a brother, Roeliff Loomis of Shelby, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lego, in 1989; two brothers, and one sister.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11 a.m. by her pastor, the Rev. John J. Bradley. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or to the First United Church of Christ in care of the funeral home.

Madelle I. “Lindy” (Zimmerman) Lindenberg

Madelle I. “Lindy” Lindenberg, age 93, of 20 Park Village, Shelby, died Satuday, September 18,
1999 at the Heritage Care Center in Shelby.

Mrs. Lindenberg was born November 5, 1905 in Mansfield, the daughter of Emil A. and Clara (Purdy) Zimmerman. She was a 1923 graduate of Mansfield Sr. High School. She was a
homemaker and had been a secretary at Shelby Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the
First United Church of Christ in Shelby. Mrs. Lindenberg enjoyed playing cards especially bridge.

She is survived by a son-in-law, F. John Finn; 2 grandsons and spouse, Mark and Charisse Finn
and David Finn; and a great-grandson, Eric Finn, all of Shelby.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey LaVern Lindenberg in 1971; by a brother, and by her daughter, Patricia A. Finn on Aug. 1,1999.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, September 21, 1999 at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby from 10-10:45 AM. Graveside services will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Shelby at 11:00 AM with Rev. John J. Ruth (Young) Kocher

Ruth E. Kocher, age 89, formerly of 13 West End Blvd., Shelby, died Friday, February 21, 2003 at the Ottawa County Riverview Nursing Home in Oak Harbor, Ohio.

She was born December 8, 1913 in Akron, Ohio the daughter of the late Robert and Dorotea (Starr) Young. Mrs. Kocher was a graduate of Springfield Township High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby where she was active in various organizations at church, and Questers. During the school years of her children, she was very active in the Auburn School Parent Teacher Association and the Shelby High School Music Boosters. She was an excellent seamstress and had given sewing lessons at the Shelby Y for many years. She loved animals.

Ruth is survived by her 4 children and spouses, Gary S. Kocher of Toledo, Lary L. and Connie Kocher of Houston, TX, Terry Bodager-Hagedorn and Karl Hagedorn of Port Clinton, and Sherry Kocher of Oregon; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin C. Kocher in 1988, and 2 sisters, Edna Hackenberg and Elsa Weber.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, February, 24, 2003 at 2:00 PM at the Ottawa County Riverview Nursing Home, 8180 State Route 163, Oak Harbor, Ohio. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2003, from
11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Uniontown, Ohio. Memorial expressions may be made to the Nursing Home or the Humane Society of the donor’s choice.

Sue Irene Miller

Sue Irene Miller, age 90, formerly of 29 Steele Avenue, died Monday, August 05, 2002, at the Crestwood Care Center after an extended illness.

She was born January 29, 1912 in Shelby, the daughter of the late Cameron and Anna (Weaver) Miller. Sue was a 1930 graduate of Shelby High School and was a former employee of Shelby Spring Hinge Co. and Miller Products both in Shelby. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Shelby, a charter member of the V. F .W. George Broderick Post #291 Ladies Auxiliary, and AARP. Sue was an avid bowler and golfer.

Sue is survived by 2 nieces and spouse: Janet Swartz of Bucyrus and Leola and Bill Fisher of Shelby; 2 nephews and spouse: Ardon (Sonny) and Dee Miller of Galion, and Bill Meek of Shiloh; a cousin, Vera Kuhn of Shelby; numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Dinah and Mike Melick, and a brother and sister-in-law, Catter and Jennie Miller.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, August 8, 2002 from 10-11 AM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be Thursday at 11 AM with Rev. Marjorie Mair-Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to the First United Church of Christ.

Jean E. (Bookwalter) Benedict Moyer

Jean E. Benedict Moyer, age 72, of 2186 Cornwall Drive in Xenia, died unexpectedly Saturday morning at her home. She was born February 23, 1921 in Mansfield, the daughter of Charles L. and Lydia (Taylor) Bookwalter.

Mrs. Moyer was a homemaker and had been a former employee of the Shelby Cycle Co.

She is survived by her husband Myron D. Moyer, whom she married on April 24, 1991; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Ralph Robert and Sheran Benedict of Arizona; 5 step-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandchild; 1 step-daughter and her husband, Deborah and Paul Gultice of Xenia; 2 brothers, Wilbur and Charles Bookwalter both of Mansfield; 1 sister, Edna Stevens of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Ralph L. Benedict in 1982; 1 brother Don Bookwalter; and a daughter Linda Benedict in 1944.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday one half hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 1:00 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, in Shelby, with the Rev. J. Malcolm Brook, Pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Shelby, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.

Leah A. (Hunter) McClead

Leah A. McClead, 75, of Myers Road, Mansfield, died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday in Mansfield General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born Dec. 27, 1909 in Athens County, she was the daughter of Arthur and Althea (Brown) Hunter.

She was employed as a bookkeeper at Ingersoll-Humphreys in Mansfield (now Artesian Industries). She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Shelby and the Ruth Gleaners Sunday School Class at the church. She was a Gray Lady at Shelby Memorial Hospital, a member of Athens Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star for 58 years, and the Richland County Home Extension Agency.

Surviving is her husband, A.E. “Ed” McClead, whom she married June 1, 1928. Also surviving are
one daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Benita) Kehl of Bellbrook; one son, Charles Eugene of Chicago, IL; and five grandsons.

She was preceded in death by five sisters.

Funeral service was held at 1:00 this afternoon at the First Lutheran Church with her pastor, Rev. Carl Johnson, officiating. Interment will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at North Bethel Cemetery in Athens County.

Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Turner Funeral Home.

Charles Lawrence “Charlie” Niese

Charles Lawrence “Charlie” Niese, age 17, of 3364 Hinesville Road, Shelby, died Friday morning as the result of an automobile accident in Crawford County. He was born June 16, 1976 in Shelby.

Charlie would have been a junior from Shelby Sr. High School attending Pioneer Joint Vocational School this fall. He was a member of Sacred Heart Of Jesus Catholic Church in Bethlehem,
where he was an altar boy and attended C.C.D. He was a member of the Shelby Sr. High School football team, F.F.A., and 4-H Herdsman Club. Charlie worked on the family farm, loved little children, and spending time with his friends.

Charlie is survived by his parents, Robert C. and Lillian A. (White) Niese; 2 brothers and 1 sister-in-law, Roger and Terri Niese and Kenneth Niese all of Shelby; 1 sister and brother-in-law Kristi and Loren Kranz of Shiloh; 1 niece, Leslie Kranz and 1 nephew Owen Niese. His paternal grandfather, Waldo Niese of Crestline; aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Cecelia (Rieman) Niese and by his maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Ethel (Campbell) White.

Calling hours will be on Sunday from noon to 3:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where a Christian wake service will be held on Sunday evening at 8:30 P.M. Funeral Mass will be on Monday at 10:00 A.M. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Bethlehem with his pastor Father Gary Walters, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorial expressions may be made to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, or to an agriculture scholarship fund in his memory and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home.

Eugene C. Patton

Eugene C. Patton, age 78, of 39 West End Blvd., Shelby, died at 5:35 P.M. Friday in Mansfield Memorial Homes after an extended illness. He was born November 24, 1910 in Morehead, Kentucky, the son of Alex and Nannie Bell (Turner) Patton.

Mr. Patton was a carpenter with Carpenter’s Local #735 in Mansfield with 35 years of service. Prior to that, he had been employed at the Ohio Steel Tube Company. He attended the First Church Of The Nazarene, was a member of the Shelby Eagles, and was an Army veteran of WWII.

Mr. Patton is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (Danals) Patton, whom he married on February 12, 1938; 1 son, Russell Patton of Perrysburg, Ohio; 1 daughter, Mrs. Leonard (Gene Ellen) Budd of Baraboo, Wisconsin; 4 grandchildren; 2 brothers: Robert Patton of Shiloh, and Wilbur Patton of Oaklahoma City, Oaklahoma; 1 sister, Berchie Johnson of Shelby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons: Gerald and Raymond Patton; 2 brothers, and 1 sister.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at the First Church Of The Nazarene in Shelby with the Rev. B.T. Richardson officiating. Friends may call on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home.
