Dan C. McClain, age 84, formerly of 12 Glenwood Drive, Shelby, died Friday night in Shelby Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. He was born September 10, 1907 in Kirby, Ohio, Wyandot County, the son of Elmore and Leefe (Kotterman) McClain.
Mr. McClain was a graduate of Forest, Ohio, High School, Marion Business College, and The Ohio University Executive Developement Program. He was a former semi-pro football and basketball player. Mr. McClain was the Parma Division Manager for Columbia Gas of Ohio retiring in
1972 after 46 years of service. He served the company as Manager of Operations in Crestline, Circleville, Chillicothe, and Parma, Ohio.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby; Lodge #23 F. & A.M. in Circleville, Ohio; and was an honorary member of the Parma Athletic Federation and the Parma Municipal Athletic Association. He was the past president of the Parma Chamber of Commerce, Parma Kiwanis Club, and Parma Public Schools Booster Club. He was a past board member of the Parma Community Hospital and the Parma Y.M.C.A He was past chairman of the Parma Red Cross and Parma Chamber of Commerce Safety Awards Committee. He was selected as the Outstanding Citizen of Parma for 1967-1968 and was named Most Prominent Senior Citizen
of Cuyahoga County in 1970. The Ohio Senate passed a resolution honoring him for public service to Parma and Cuyahoga County.
Mr. McClain is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law: John and Nona McClain of Dillsboro, Indiana; 1 granddaughter Emily McClain; and 1 sister Anna Bonnell of Lebanon, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn H. (Knapp) McClain in October of 1984; by 4 brothers: Jay, Walter, Russell, and Bert McClain; as well as 3 sisters: Iva Liles, Orphea Fox, and Buleah Roby.
Calling hours will be on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home where Masonic services will be held at 8:30 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at the Turner Funeral Home with his pastor the Rev. Lyle Hinkle, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.

Fern M. Neer, 96, of 58 Park Village, died Monday, September 15, 2003 at her home after a brief illness.
Mrs. Neer was born March 31, 1907 in Mansfield, the daughter of the late Joseph and Minnie (Moore) Lambright. She was a 1926 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and member of Shenandoah Christian Church. She had been a cook for the Crestview High School for 2 years and was a pollworker for the Richland County Board of Elections for over 30 years. She was a resident of Franklin Township most of her life, moving to Park Village in 1987.
On November 10, 1926 she married Karl S. Neer who died in 1980.
She is survived by two daughters: Nancy Evans-Ault of Galion, and Phyllis Wattle of Lorida, FL; two sons and daughters-in-law: William and Irmogene Neer of rural Shiloh, and Jerry and Nancy Neer of rural Ashland; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Neer Griebling; one son-in-law and his wife, Bernard and Donna Wolf of rural Ashland; 18 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Alice Felver of Monroeville, PA.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, James K. Neer in 1972; one daughter, Shirley Wolf in 1996; two brothers: Herman and Harry Lambright; and one sister: Martha Gregg.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Shenandoah Christian Church with Rev. Thomas McFadden officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery, Franklin Twp. Robert E. Page, 80, of 66 Park Village Shelby, died Thursday afternoon, May 25, 2000 at the Heritage Care Center.
He was born Aug. 4, 1919, in Ashland, the son of the late Joe and Vanetta (Freese) Page. A graduate of Shelby High School, Bob was a former insurance agent for Western-Southern. During WWII he worked for the Big Four Railroad, a time he often reminisced about with great pleasure. He was a retired printer from Shelby Business Forms.
Bob was a member of Shelby Lodge 350 F .&A.M., Shelby Chapter 178 R.A.M., and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus. He also was a member of the American Legion, Eagles, and Owls Clubs, and Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, all in Shelby.
Bob was a wonderful story teller with a great memory for the details of his life experiences. He and his childhood friend, the late Harold Hanno, owned and published a weekly newspaper in Shelby during the early 1940s. Among his passions were his friends whom he would meet at McDonalds three times a day. He was a meticulous gardener and loved working with his hands and with wood. He also enjoyed playing cards and working with model trains.
Surviving are 2 sons and daughters-in law: Jon and Jo Anne Page of Wooster, and Gary and Sue Page of Colchester Vermont; a daughter and son in law: Janet “JP” and Ron Whitehill of Ashland; 8 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren; a special friend, Carol Henderson; and an uncle, Bill Freese, both of Shelby.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise (Buck) Page in 1991; 2 grandchildren, and a sister.
Friends may call on Sunday, May 28th from 2-4 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home 168 W. Main St. in Shelby. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday May 30th at 11 A.M. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. John Missler officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Marcia Abbott Petrie, age 90, of 32 South Gamble Street, Shelby, died at 1:53 p.m. Monday at her home after an extended illness. She was born September 10, 1897 in Shelby, the daughter of Frank and Amy (Myers) Abbott.
Mrs. Petrie is survived by one daughter: Virginia Petrie of Shelby; 2 grandsons, and 1 great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wilson Petrie in 1957; 1 son Frank; 1 grandson, Matt; and 2 brothers.
Mrs. Petrie was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, the Delta Zeta Sorority, and was a graduate of The Ohio State University. She was a former home economics teacher in various schools and had been employed at the former Wilkins Air Force Depot.

Zephyr Hord Price, age 94, formerly of 49 West Tucker Avenue, Shelby, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Shelby Memorial Hospital. She was born December 20, 1891 in New Haven, Ohio, the daughter of the late J.K. and Rosetta (Post) Hord.
Mrs. Price is survived by 3 daughters: Mrs. John H. (Hazel) Gray, Mrs. Ray (Esther) Dake, and Mrs. Russell (Mildred) Page, all of Shelby; 3 granddaughters; 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil R. Price in 1937, and by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Mrs. Price was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Shelby, the King’s Daughters Sunday School Class, Rebecca Circle, and Plus 25 Christian Endeavor all at church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church with her pastor, the Rev. J. Malcom Brook officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven. Dorothy Ellen Reber, age 78, of 69 East Smiley Avenue, Shelby, died Monday, Marth 20, 2000 in Med Central Shelby Hospital after a short illness.
She was born July 21, 1921 in Ashland, Ohio. Mrs. Reber retired from National Laytex Products in Ashland and was a member of Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church. She loved and enjoyed her family.
Surviving are 5 sons and 2 daughters-in-law: W. Lauren and Winona Reber of Florida, Fred L. Reber of Mansfield, Richard D. Reber formerly of Ashland, Kenneth E. Reber of Michigan, and James A. and Shelli Reber of Ashland; 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law: Margaret E. Fliger of Mansfield, Anna Marie and Tom Miller of Plymouth; 26 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; her mother, Mary Truex of Mansfield; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law: Donald and Clara Truex of Shiloh, and Olney “Bud” and Nella Truex of Mansfield; 2 sisters and a brother-in-law: Grace Fern and Emmett Miller of Mansfield, and Pearl Mae Elrod of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her father, Olney Truex; a son, Carl Eugene Reber; and a sister, Frances Baldwin.

Rosalyn (Brown) Ronald, age 70, of 1139 Glenmeadow Court, San Jose, California, and formerly of the Galion and Bucyrus area, died Sunday at her home unexpectedly. She was born July 16, 1919 in Chatfield, Ohio, the daughter of Harl E. and Vonna Lee (Tway) Brown.
Ms. Ronald was the court reporter for the Santa Clara County Superior court in San Jose, California for 25 years. She was a 1937 graduate of Galion High School.
She is survived by 2 brothers: Edwin Brown of Shelby, and Dr. Harold Brown of Sugargrove, Ohio; 1 sister: Medrith James of St. George, Utah; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and by 2 sisters: Dr. Evelyn Lavery and Leota Hathorn.

Bertie Scott, age 91, of 90 Second St., Shelby, died Saturday morning in the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby. She was born Sept. 15, 1902, the daughter of Kay and Ruth Light. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Dan River Primitive Baptist Church in Vesta, Virginia.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in -la: Lala and Daimon Todd of Shelby; three sons and one daughter in law: Leroy Scott of Pax, WV, Hershell and Shelia Scott of Tellico Plains, TN, and Lwood Scott of Malden, Missouri; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Scott in 1977; 1 grandaughter Patricia Scott; 1 daughter-in-law Dolores Scott; 4 brothers, and 1 sister.
Friends may call on Tuesday from noon to 1 P.M. at the Melton Mortuary, 1200 Harper Road in Beckley, WV, where funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. by the Rev. Vondie Cook, Pastor of the

Virginia A. Severns, 38, of 163 Broadway, died Wednesday afternoon in Shelby Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. Severns was born Feb. 5, 1949, at Holden, WV, the daughter of George and Mary (Click) Ramey. She was a homemaker, a volunteer swimming instructor at the Shelby YMCA Community Center, and a member of the Tiro United Baptist Church.
She is survived by her parents, George and Mary (Click) Ramey of Shelby; two daughters: Mrs. Brenden (Virginia Sue) Adkins Beal of Shelby and Bridget Heintz, at home; four sons: Donald Adkins of Shelby and Dwayne Heintz, Michael Severns, and Joseph Severns, all at home; one granddaughter; four step-children: Pam Dunford, Tina Buckner, Tracey Severns, and James Severns, all of Bucyrus; one brother: George Ramey of San Antonio, Texas; and four sis ters: Jannie Smith and Vickie Tackett, both of Shelby, Delorse Moore of Tiro, and Kathy Fagg of Wichita, Texas.
Mrs. Severns was preceded in death by two husbands: Wayne Heintz in 1972, and Max Severns in 1985.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby by the Rev. S. T. Adkins and the Rev. Altaie Bowman. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Dick B. Shepherd, age 82, of 86 Grand Blvd. Ext., Shelby, died Saturday, December 22, 2001 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital after a short illness.
He was born October 9, 1919 in Mansfield, Ohio, the son of Neal and Romain (Beelman) Shepherd. Mr. Shepherd was a 1938 graduate of Shiloh High School and was an Army Air Corp vereran of WWII, having served as a staff seargent in England, Africa, Italy, and France. He was a retired 40+ year employee of the Shelby Business Forms and was a member of First United Methodist Church and former member of Shelby American Legion, O’Brien Post #326.
Mr. Shepherd is survived by his wife, Jean (Beach) Shepherd whom he wed on April 12, 1946; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law: Kim and Bonnie Shepherd of Westerville, and Lee Shepherd of Shelby; a daughter: Mary Jo Shepherd of East Windsor, NJ; 5 grandchildren: Matt Shepherd, Stacey Shepherd, Mary Bolin, Laura Fullen, and Justin Powell; 6 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Annabelle Shepherd of Sandusky; his pets and constant companions: Benjamin and Angel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: James Shepherd and Daniel Shepherd, and an infant sister.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, December 23,2001, from 7-9 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby and also from 10-11 AM on Monday, December 24, 2001 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Monday by Rev. Jeff Matthews. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby with military honors.
