Jill Marie Roberts

Jill Marie Roberts, age 22, of 5430 Preston Road, Shelby, died early Saturday morning, December 16, 2000, at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, Ohio, from injuries received in an automobile accident near Bellevue.

Jill was born November 29, 1978 in Shelby, the daughter of William L. and Judy A. (Miller) Roberts. She was a 1997 graduate of Plymouth High School and was on the homecoming court and girls basketball teams. Jill was active in Future Farmers of America and New Addition 4-H Club. She
was a senior at the Universtiy of Toledo majoring in elementary education and loved working with kids. She was employed at Gino’s Pizza in Toledo.

She is survived by her parents; 2 sisters Mariane Roberts of Ashland, and Andrea Roberts of Shelby; 2 brothers: William Roberts and Scott Roberts both of Shelby; her maternal grandmother, Rosemary (Reber) Miller of Shelby; her paternal grandmother: Janet (Scott) Argo of Shelby; her paternal grandfather: Donald Roberts of Shelby; her Godparents: Hager and Joan Hicks of Shelby; a special friend, John Frank of Toledo, and his parents, Kim and Doug Kohl of Toledo; aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, George Miller in 1977.

Friends may call on Monday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where a Christian Wake Service will be held on Monday at 8:45PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby with Father John C. Missler officiating. Burial will be in Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial expressions may be made to a scholarship fund to be established in Jill’s memory or to the Huntington Disease Foundation.

Jeannette S. (Dannemiller) Schroeder

Jeannette S. Schroeder, age 43, of 7180 State Route 61 North, Shelby, died at her home on Friday, May 11, 2001.

She was born May 2, 1958 in Willard, Ohio and was a 1976 graduate of Pioneer Joint Vocational School and Willard High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She received an associates degree in accounting from North Central Technical College and held various postions with local banking institutions and the Plymouth and Willard School Systems. She was currently working towards her bachelors degree in education at Ashland University. She enjoyed reading and the performing arts. Jeannette was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she was a member of the Family Life Team and was a religious education teacher.

Jeannette is survived by her husband: Donald L. Schroeder whom she wed on August 20, 1977;
her mother, Alfreda (Hartenstein) Dannemiller of Willard; 4 brothers and sisters-in-law: Thomas and Susan Dannemiller, and John and Barbara Dannemiller all of Shelby, James and Carol Dannemiller and Andrew Dannemiller all of Willard; 5 sisters and brothers-in-law: Barbara and John Gosser, Arlene and Kevin Eidt all of Shelby, Ruth and Mike Blaisdell, Pauline and Greg Bogner all of Willard, Marie and Eric Baumgartner of Oxford; maternal grandmother: Cora Hartenstein of Tiffin; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father Gerald Dannemiller in 2000.

Calling hours will be on Monday, May 14, 2001, from 1-4 and 6-9PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where a Christian wake service will be conducted at 8:45 PM.

William McKinley Setterfield

William McKinley Setterfield, 92, of 24 Mansfield Ave., died at 3:20 a.m., Sunday, in the Heritage Care Center after a lingering illness. Born June 20, 1893 in Crestline, he was the son of William G. and Lumetta Belle (Dwire) Setterfield.

He retired in 1958 from the Houdaille Co. in Detroit, MI.

He is survived by two sisters: Hazel Crabbs of Shelby, and Twyla Heneveld of Sun City, AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah, in 1971, and four brothers.

Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Donald Monn, lay pastor of the Trinity Methodist Church, officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Turner Funeral Home.

Myron E. Shaw

Myron E. Shaw, 79, of 239 W. Main St., died 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Shelby Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

Born July 16, 1906, he was the son of Elmer and Lulu (Moore) Shaw.

He was a retired painter from the Autocall Division of the Federal Signal Corp. in Shelby. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Shelby Masonic Lodge No. 350 F and A.M. and Rizpah Chapter No. 153 Order of the Eastern Star.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine (Crider) Shaw, whom he married Sept. 5, 1964; one son: Fred Shaw of Shelby; one daughter: Melinda Place of Tennessee; one step-daughter:
Joanne Danals of Shelby; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marguarite Cline; and one brother, Damon Shaw.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Turner Funeral Home with his pastor, Rev. Carl
G. Beighley, officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 this evening at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 8 tonight.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church and can be left at
the funeral home.

G. Desmond “Des” Smith

G. Desmond “Des” Smith, age 72, of 14 West Madison Avenue, Shelby, died Monday evening, June 10, 2002 at his home. He had been in failing health.

He was born June 24, 1929 in Shelby, the son of the late Burch Henry and Bernice Leota (Brinkerhoff) Smith. He was a 1947 graduate of Shelby High School and graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. While at Kent State he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.

He retired in 1993 from the Shelby Sales Book/ Miami Systems where he had been a salesman. He served in the United States Navy from 1948 -1952. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; O’Brien Post #326 Shelby American Legion; Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F & AM; Shelby Shrine Club where he had been past president and drove miniature cars in many parades as a “T” Totaler; Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Canton; Al Koran Shrine Center of Cleveland. He volunteered his time as a driver transporting patients to Shriner Hospitals. He enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Mohican Coachman Chapter #20.

Des is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Linda and Gary Lemmon of Hagerman, IL, and Katherine and Mark Harris of Grand Blanc, MI; a son and daughter-in-law: Matthew and Christine Smith of Shelby; 4 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law: Donna and Ben Lay of Shelby; an aunt, Helen Kinsell, of Shelby; and an uncle, Roeliff Loomis of Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth H. “Betty” (Flickinger) Smith in 1997.

Calling hours will be on Friday, June 14, 2002, from 5-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, and from 9:30 -10:30 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 AM with Rev. Dave Carter officiating. Masonic services will be conducted Friday evening at 7:45 PM. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to Shriner’s Hospitals.

Arlene Charlotte (Long) Stevens

Arlene Charlotte Stevens, age 75, of 88 Park Village, died Wednesday afternoon in the Crestwood Care Center after an extended illness. She was born March 20, 1917 in Ashland, Ohio, the daughter of Milton and Grace (Smith) Long.

Mrs. Stevens was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shelby. She was the Past President of the Ladies AuxilIary of the Shelby American Legion, O’Brien Post #326 and she enjoyed making ceramics.

Mrs. Stevens is survived by her husband, Clifford J. Stevens, whom she married on October 11, 1944; one daughter and son-in-law: Joe and Connie Stuckert of Ontario, Ohio; one son: Thomas Stevens of Daytona, Florida; a daughter-in-law: Carolyn Stevens of Ontario, Ohio; 4 granddaughters; 1 great-granddaughter and 3 great-grand sons; 2 sisters: Mary Guarino of Florida and Pauline Faulk of Las Vegas, Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and a brother, and one son, Edward M. Stevens in 1988.

Calling hours will be on Friday from 5-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 A.M. with her pastor, Rev. James L. Smith, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home.

Harriett C. (Yarman) Stroup

Harriett C. Stroup, 87, formerly of St. Rt. 39 South, died early Thursday morning in the Heritage Care Center. She was born January 7, 1900 in Shelby, the daughter of Philip and Florence (Strong) Yarman.

She is survived by 2 sons: Paul and Norman, both of Shelby; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Janice) Boyce of Conyers, Georgia; 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna Roose of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Stroup, in 1954; by 3 sisters and 6 brothers.

Mrs. Stroup was a homemaker, a member of the First Lutheran Church in Sheiby and the Daughters of America.

Funeral service will be held on Monday at 10: 30 A.M. at the Turner Funeral Home with her pastor the Rev. Carl L. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery Shelby. Friends may call at the funeral home any time after noon on Sunday where the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.

Memorial contributions mayy be made to the American Heart Association or the First Lutheran Church and left at the funeral home.

Vernon Richard Swank

Vernon Richard Swank, age 76, of 18 Taft Street, Shelby, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 16, 1998, at his home.

He was born May 13, 1922 in Bellville, Ohio, the son of Guy and Goldie (Wolford) Swank. Mr. Swank was a 30-year employee of Copperweld-Shelby Division. He was a member of Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Shiloh and the Richland County Steam Thrashers Association. He enjoyed yard work and old time engines. For many years he was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program in Shelby. Mr. Swank was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the D-Day invasion in Normandy.

Mr. Swank is survived by 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law: Kathy Webb of LasVegas, Nevada, Elaine and John Mills of Shelby; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Suzann Swank of Mansfield; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 2 sisters and brothers- in-law: Wanda and Harley Kegley of Shelby, and Evelyn and Dale Keysor of Shelby; 1 brother and sister-in-law: Raymond and Delores Swank of Shelby; his former wife and her husband, Donna and Don Kiser of Las Vegas, Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by 2 sisters: Betty Horn and Mary Swank.

Calling hours will be on Friday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Diana Friend officiating. Burial will be in Bellville Cemetery in Bellville, Ohio, with military honors conducted by the Joint Veterans Council. Memorial expressions may be made to Meals on Wheels.

Mary Caroline (Kingsboro) Tiffany

Mary Caroline (Kingsboro) Tiffany, age 85, of 155 West Main Street, died Thursday, November
26, 1998 at her home.

Mrs. Tiffany was born in the same home on December 2, 1912 and lived there her entire life.
She was a graduate of the Randolph Macon Womens College in Lynchburg, Virginia, where she
was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. Mrs. Tiffany taught school at Hayes School in Shelby. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby and was a board member at Marvin Memorial Library for many years.

Mrs. Tiffany is survived by her husband, Everett E. Tiffany, whom she married on July 28, 1942; nieces, Jane Kingsboro Suszek of Sparta, New Jersey, Barbara Tiffany Ruby of Pennsylvania, and Susan Tiffany of Columbus, Ohio; nephews, John Kingsboro of Columbus, Ohio and
Richard Tiffany of Kenton, Ohio; sister-in-law, Mabel Tiffany of Shelby; close friends, Bob and Eleanor Broomhall of Shelby, and college roommate, Ruth Jones of Frankfort, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John R. and Amy (Schwab) Kingsboro, and by a brother Dr. Wilson Kingsboro.

Calling hours will be on Monday from noon untill 1:00 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in
Shelby where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Matthews officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made to Marvin Memorial
Library.

Nicholas Thomas Turner

Nicholas Thomas Turner, infant son of Thomas Weightman and Theresa Turner, died at birth at Shelby Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Decmeber 9, 1989.

In addition to his parents, Nicholas is survived by his maternal grandparents, Harry and Melody Turner of Shelby.

A private graveside service was held for the family on Wednesday, December 20, 1989, at Oakland Cemetery in Shelby with his grandfather, Deacon Harry Turner of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, officiating.

Turner Funeral Home, Shelby, helped the family with arrangements.
