Vernon Richard Swank

Vernon Richard Swank, age 76, of 18 Taft Street, Shelby, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 16, 1998, at his home.

He was born May 13, 1922 in Bellville, Ohio, the son of Guy and Goldie (Wolford) Swank. Mr. Swank was a 30-year employee of Copperweld-Shelby Division. He was a member of Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Shiloh and the Richland County Steam Thrashers Association. He enjoyed yard work and old time engines. For many years he was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program in Shelby. Mr. Swank was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the D-Day invasion in Normandy.

Mr. Swank is survived by 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law: Kathy Webb of LasVegas, Nevada, Elaine and John Mills of Shelby; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Suzann Swank of Mansfield; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 2 sisters and brothers- in-law: Wanda and Harley Kegley of Shelby, and Evelyn and Dale Keysor of Shelby; 1 brother and sister-in-law: Raymond and Delores Swank of Shelby; his former wife and her husband, Donna and Don Kiser of Las Vegas, Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by 2 sisters: Betty Horn and Mary Swank.

Calling hours will be on Friday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Diana Friend officiating. Burial will be in Bellville Cemetery in Bellville, Ohio, with military honors conducted by the Joint Veterans Council. Memorial expressions may be made to Meals on Wheels.
