Donna Seaman

Donna J. Seaman, age 76, of Shelby, died Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Crestwood Care Center.

She was born August 14, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of the late Lester J. and Pearl (Wilson) Heinz. Donna was a graduate of Willoughby High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from The Ohio State University. She continued her education with a Master’s in Education from the University of Akron. Donna began her career teaching special education at Newhope in Mansfield and at Shelby Jr. High. She went on to Mansfield City Schools where she was a special education supervisor followed by principal at both Hedges Elementary and Sherman Elementary Schools. She retired from Shelby City Schools where she was principal at Central Elementary School.

Donna enjoyed traveling with her husband Dean, reading, and dining out and her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.

Donna is survived by her husband: Dean Seaman whom she wed in 1979; her children: Joyce Malainy (John Wagner) of Johnstown, OH, Mark S. (Karen) Malainy of Canton, MI; Step children: Becky Seaman of Shiloh, Lanny (Angie) Seaman of Shiloh, and Melanie Seaman of Mansfield; 4 grandsons: Vincent Malainy, Lance Seaman, Tyler Seaman, Logan Seaman; a great grandson: Christopher Seaman; sister-in-law: June Heinz. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers: Lester Heinz and Milton Heinz.

Patricia Mae “Pat” (Ford) Downs

Patricia Mae “Pat” (Ford) Downs, age 84, of Shelby, died Monday, July 15, 2013 at Hospice House of North Central Ohio in Ashland.

She was born March 12, 1929 at home in Nankin, Ohio the daughter of the late E. Kenneth and Gladys (Bailey) Ford. She was a 1947 graduate of Shelby High School and on September 5, 1948 she married Raymond E. Downs and he survives. Pat was a very active member of Shelby First United Methodist Church where she served on many committees over the years. She served on committees at both the district and conference levels, including district lay leader, district director of lay speaking and several others. Pat also spent many hours volunteering in the community, including: Med Central Shelby Hospital, Renaissance Theater, and Meals on Wheels. She was the proud recipient of the Jess Rath Christian Service Volunteer Award. Pat enjoyed watching the many hummingbirds she had around her home; however, her greatest joy was being a mom, grandma and great grandma.

Pat is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years: Raymond E. Downs; a daughter: Suzanne (Wes) DeVene of Willard; 3 sons: David (Andrea) Downs of Shelby, Philip (Ann) Downs of Shelby and Dwight (Ginger) Downs of Birmingham, AL; 13 grandchildren: Sara DeVene, Andrew (Allison) DeVene, Adam (Megan) Downs, Whitney (James) Rule, Jeffrey (Ashley) Downs, Brad (Angela) Downs, Christina Downs, Melissa Downs, Matt Downs, Emma Downs, Grayson Cusimano, Gabriel Downs, Martha Claire Downs; 5 great grandchildren: Molly and Mason Downs , Lucas DeVene, Nolan and Oliver Downs; a sister-in-law: Nannette Ford of Columbus; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother: Warren Ford and an infant brother: William Ford.

Friends and family are welcome on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 18 South Gamble Street, Shelby. Rev. Mike Corwin and Rev. Tom Snyder will officiate and burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Sheldon Ray Horst

Sheldon Ray Horst, age 5, son of Nelson Z. and Twila R. (Zeiset) Horst, was suddenly called home to be with Jesus, Saturday, July 13, 2013 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Holmes County, Ohio.

Sheldon was born March 14, 2008 in Greenwich, Ohio. His sunny, bubbly personality and inquisitive nature will be greatly missed by family and friends, along with acquaintances at the family business, Walnut Hill Feeds where he enjoyed spending much of his time.

Along with his parents, Sheldon is survived by his siblings: Kevin, Michelle, Melissa, Weston, Javin, and Kenton Horst all at home; Paternal grandparents: Alvin and Esther Horst of Shelby; Maternal grandparents: Allan and Esther Zeiset of East Earl, PA; Maternal great grandparents: David and Lucy Oberholtzer of Lititz, PA; Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins.

Friends and family are welcome on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Blooming  Grove Community Center, 7316 Amstutz Road, Shiloh, Ohio. Herbert S. Beeching

Herbert S. Beeching, age 87, of Shelby, died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

Herb was born August 13, 1925 in Plymouth, Ohio the son of the late Albert and Rachel (Stine) Beeching. He was a graduate of Plymouth High School and was a veteran of the United States Army.  During his working career, Herb owned his own bookkeeping business and in the mid 1970’s he bought Bressler’s 33 Flavor Ice Cream Store in the Richland Mall, which he operated for over 14 years. After that, he worked part time for a number of years at Citizens Bank in Shelby as a courier. Herb was a member of First Lutheran Church in Shelby. Herb enjoyed playing the organ and shared his musical talents as a substitute organist at First Lutheran as well as at other area churches.

He was a former board member at the Rehab Center in Mansfield where he was an active  volunteer and liked sharing his sign language skills with others. He was a former member of the Shelby Sertoma Club and volunteered with his wife, Dorothy, at the Renaissance Theater in Mansfield.

Herb is survived by his 2 daughters: Cindy Stanford (Ben Lash) of Shelby and Amy Beeching of Shiloh; 3 grandchildren: Holly (Justin) Hensley, Derek Stanford (Tia Kirby), Cassie Stanford; 2 sister-in-laws: Jane Beeching of Shelby and Margaret Monn of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Dorothy Louise (Schreck) Beeching, 2 brothers: Edwin and Eugene Beeching.

Dorothea E. Shank

Dorothea E. Shank, age 99 ½, of Plymouth, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

Dorothea was born January 4, 1914 in Cranberry Township Crawford County, Ohio, the daughter of the late William E. and Clara D. (Steiger) Eckstein. She was a 1932 graduate of New Washington High School and was a former employee of AMF. On February 25, 1939 Dorothea married C. Ralph Shank at the First Christian Church in Bucyrus where Rev. G. L. Burhard presided. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Shelby. A talented quilter, Mrs. Shank enjoyed making quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a talented gardener always being able to identify any flower, plant, tree or even weed. She also enjoyed reading.

Dorothea is survived by: 3 daughters: Eunice (Hobart) Kenton of Cabot, PA, Ann E. Mott of Shelby, Linda L. Shank of Shelby; a son: Tom (Deborah) Shank of Plymouth; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; 2 sisters: Ann Winans of Antelope, CA and Mary (Don) Heiby of Bucyrus; a sister-in-law: Lola Eckstein of New Washington. She was preceded in death by: her husband, C. Ralph Shank in 1992; 3 brothers: Clarence Eckstein, Lester Eckstein, and Arthur Eckstein.

Friends may call on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 2-5 PM and also on Monday one hour prior to the service from 10-11 AM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Mary (DeFelice) Turner

 

Mary (DeFelice) Turner, 85, of Shadyside, died Friday, June 28, 2013 at Belmont Community Hospital in Bellaire. Born in Bellaire on September 3, 1927, she was the youngest child of the late Julio and Meri (Panone) DeFelice. She was a 1945 graduate of St. John High School in Bellaire and was a former employee of the G.C. Murphy Company. Mary was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Shadyside.

Mary lived her entire life within five miles of where she was born—not one to travel, she was most comfortable in her kitchen at home.  She will always be remembered by family and friends for her delicious cooking–especially her spaghetti and meatballs. No one ever left hungry because she always fixed enough food to feed a small army.

On June 13, 2013, Mary celebrated 60 years of marriage to Robert L. “Bob” Turner who survives along with four children: Robert (Catherine) Turner of Shelby; Mary Chuckery (Don Crozier) of Shadyside; Louis (Heather) Turner of Springfield; and Joanne Misenhelder of Bridgeport. Eight grandchildren: Aaron Turner of Lexington; Adam (Elizabeth) Turner of Beavercreek; Alyse Turner of Shelby; Antonia, Annmeri, and Dominic Turner of Springfield; Stephanie and Anthony Chuckery of Shadyside; 1 great-granddaughter, Christa Berry. Also surviving is her sister, Emma Closser, of Kenton.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Copper in 1997; brother, Adam DeFelice in 2000, and a brother who died in infancy.

Friends may call on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Shadyside, Fr. Samuel R. Saprano officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Bellaire. Memorial expressions may be made to St. John Central High School, St. Mary Catholic Church, or the OR&W Fire District Shadyside. Roger W. Daron

Roger Weldon Daron, age 81, of Plymouth, died Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Med Central Shelby Emergency Room.

Roger was born August 29, 1931 in Huron County, the son of the late Ralph and Myrtle (Christie) Daron. He was a 1949 graduate of Plymouth High School and served in the United States Air Force for four years. Roger worked and retired from Uforma in Shelby and was a farmer.

Roger is survived by: his wife, Carol Jean (Bonecutter) Daron whom he wed on April 12, 1958; 3 children: Andy (Sally) Daron of Plymouth, Pete Daron of Shelby, Kim (Mike) Withkowski of Plymouth; 4 grandchildren: Amanda Daron, Ben Daron, Andie Daron, and his little buddy, Adam Withkowski, whom he affectionately called “Troopie.”

Mildred Louise “Milly” Page

Mildred Louise “Milly” Page, age 85, of Shelby, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

Milly was born September 17, 1927 in Willard, the daughter of the late Emil R. and Zephyr (Hord) Price. She attended Willard High School and later retired from General Services Administration located in Shelby at the former Wilkens Air Force Depot. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting and playing on the internet. She was also a beautiful singer. Milly loved to travel, especially to Vegas and Hawaii. Always being politically conscious, if Milly was up, she had the television tuned to Fox News.

Milly is survived by: 2 daughters: Carol Jean (Ralph) Barber and Janice Eichinger both of Shelby; 6 grandchildren: Angela (Muhammad) Al-Nidawi, Connie (Billy) Castle, Michelle Barber, Richard (Angela) Eichinger, Chris (Kristin) Barber, Tasha Wilson; 14 great grandchildren: Bobby, Amber, Autumn, Rosie, Noah, Connor, Carson, Samantha, Anna, Kaidence, Justin, Ansley, Ashlyn, Quinten; a great granddaughter: Maddison; 2 step-children: Debbie Wilson and Ray (Carla) Gilespie both of Oklahoma; a sister: Esther Dake of Shelby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband: Russell T. Phyllis M. (McKenzie) Ingram

Phyllis M. (McKenzie) Ingram, age 78, of Shelby, died Monday, June 17, 2013 at Shelby Pointe.

Phyllis was born August 10, 1934 in Morehead, KY, the daughter of the late Van and Mary (Mann) Workman. She was a former employee of AMF, Shelby Uforma, and retired from Med Central Shelby Hospital. She was a member of the First Church of God in Mansfield and also in Shelby, where she played the organ for many years. Phyllis adored traveling. She and her late husband, Art, traveled on mission trips to Belize and Zambia. She also traveled extensively throughout the United States and also to the Holy Lands and Europe. Phyllis enjoyed crocheting, quilting, embroidering, and playing games. She loved to be a hostess- relishing time spent with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. For Phyllis, it did not matter if she was indoors out enjoying God’s creation, she just truly enjoyed life.

Phyllis is survived by: her son, Philip (Patricia) McKenzie of Shelby; her grandsons: Seth and Dustin McKenzie both of Shelby; 2 step children: Arthur Clark Ingram (Rhoda Robinson) of Granville and G. Charlene Evans of Columbus; 3 step grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; a brother: George (Dorlena) Workman of Morehead, KY; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband: John H. McKenzie in 1991; her second husband: Arthur F. Ingram in 2011; a daughter: Joan McKenzie in 1974; 3 brothers: William Workman, Virgil Workman, Cecil Workman; 7 sisters: Geneva Simpson, Eva Roberts, Marie Jones, Hazel Bays, Clarky Workman, Isa Caskey, Elizabeth Hays.

George Joseph Miller II

George Joseph Miller II, age 53, of Shelby, died unexpectedly, June 13, 2013 at his home.

He was born November 4, 1959 in Shelby to George Joseph and Rosemary (Reber) Miller. He was a 1979 graduate of Shelby High School and Pioneer Joint Vocational School. George was a maintenance worker at RR Donnelley & Sons Company in Willard for many years, however, his first love was farming. George loved to collect vintage farm equipment and toys along with anything else that was old. He had a very inquisitive mind and always had a new and interesting story to tell. He was quite a handyman, having the ability to build and fix anything. George enjoyed his family and friends and created fun wherever he went.

George is survived by his mother: Rosemary Miller of Columbus; 2 brothers: Thomas (Anna Marie) Miller of Plymouth and Charles (Fran) Miller of Plymouth; 5 sisters: Sr. Marie Miller OSF of Columbus; Joan (Hager) Hicks of Shelby; Rita Floro of Shelby; Judy (Bill) Roberts of Shelby; Mary Miller of Shelby; a sister-in-law: Sue Miller of Shelby; Numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
