Dorothea E. Shank

Dorothea E. Shank, age 99 ½, of Plymouth, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

Dorothea was born January 4, 1914 in Cranberry Township Crawford County, Ohio, the daughter of the late William E. and Clara D. (Steiger) Eckstein. She was a 1932 graduate of New Washington High School and was a former employee of AMF. On February 25, 1939 Dorothea married C. Ralph Shank at the First Christian Church in Bucyrus where Rev. G. L. Burhard presided. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Shelby. A talented quilter, Mrs. Shank enjoyed making quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a talented gardener always being able to identify any flower, plant, tree or even weed. She also enjoyed reading.

Dorothea is survived by: 3 daughters: Eunice (Hobart) Kenton of Cabot, PA, Ann E. Mott of Shelby, Linda L. Shank of Shelby; a son: Tom (Deborah) Shank of Plymouth; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; 2 sisters: Ann Winans of Antelope, CA and Mary (Don) Heiby of Bucyrus; a sister-in-law: Lola Eckstein of New Washington. She was preceded in death by: her husband, C. Ralph Shank in 1992; 3 brothers: Clarence Eckstein, Lester Eckstein, and Arthur Eckstein.

Friends may call on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 2-5 PM and also on Monday one hour prior to the service from 10-11 AM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 AM with Rev. Brad McBee officiating and burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Christian Church in Shelby or Med Central Hospice.

    Eunice and Hobart, we are sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my Mother 2 yrs ago and felt so blessed to have had her so long. Now she lives in our hearts and is safe in the arms of Jesus. We feel your pain, and lift you up to the Father.

    Ann and family. I am sorry to read of your mother passing. Can’t believe we were just talking about our parents. You were fortunate to have had her for all these years, my mother has been gone almost 27 years and I think of her often. Take care and enjoy your flowers, I see your mother also enjoyed flowers.
