Clarence W. Summers, age 94, of Shelby, died Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Shelby Pointe.
He was born May 5, 1919 in Mansfield, Ohio the son of the late Robert F. and Lurena (Dickson) Summers. Mr. Summers retired from Ideal Electric Company in Mansfield after 30 years of service. He was a member of First Christian Church in Mansfield.
Clarence is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Judy and Tom Zehner of Shelby; his son: James Summers of Kentucky; former son-in-law: Mark Runkle of Montana; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Nellie (Stauffer) Summers; second wife: Edna (Collins) Summers; a daughter: Joyce Runkle; a grandson: Kenneth Zehner; 2 brothers: George Summers and Howard Summers; a sister: Isabelle Snider.

Dwight A. Wetz, age 74, of Shelby, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital.
Dwight was born on December 22, 1938 in Shelby, the son of the late Fausten and Hazel (Cotter) Wetz. He was a 1957 graduate of Shelby High School where he was a gifted football player, earning the nickname “The Talented Toe.” Dwight served in the United States Army and retired from Uforma in Shelby where he was a shipping clerk. He also worked many years at Shelby Marathon. Dwight was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Shelby and was a past member of the Shelby American Legion. He loved to bowl, enjoyed golfing and picking elderberries, and was avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed any sporting event that involved his beloved Shelby Whippets. Never meeting a stranger, Dwight was a friend to all.
Dwight is survived by: his wife, Sue (Henry) Wetz, whom he married on August 15, 1959; 2 daughters: Pamela (Roger) Lynch, Julie (Dan) Hensley both of Shelby; 4 grandchildren: Andrew (fiancé, Sierra) Ensman, Chris (Mandy) Ensman, Sarah (Donnie) Adkins, Kelsi (fiancé, Jason) Lynch; 6 great grandchildren: Trinity Lynch, Ayden Ensman, Zachary Hopewell, Savannah Adkins, Mikey, Riley; 6 step grandchildren: Scott (Angie) Lynch, Joy Lang, Christine Lynch, Jason (Anna) Hensley, Nikki (John) Goldbach, Chuck Hensley; a brother, Donald (Louise) Wetz of Shelby; a sister-in-law: Eileen Wetz of Shelby; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dwight was preceded in death by: a grandson, Zachary Lynch in 2009; 2 brothers: Kenneth Wetz and Robert Wetz.

Janette (Thompson) Alt, age 77, of Galion, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at her home after a battle with cancer.
She was born March 3, 1936 in Samoset, Florida the daughter of the late William Kenneth and Hazel Finney (Musick) Thompson. She was a 1954 graduate of Leesburg High School in Leesburg, Florida. She had been a secretary for 20 years at St. Mark’s School in Longwood, Florida. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Bethlehem, Shelby Settlement. Janette enjoyed golfing, traveling, cooking, sewing and crafts. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Janette is survived by her husband: William P. Alt; 2 daughters: Sharon (Nick) Shields of Nashville, TN and Deborah (Jeff) Corn of Westerville, OH; 4 grandchildren: Nikolai Shields, Noah Shields, Nicole Corn and Faith Corn; a brother: Keith (Jennie) Thompson of Lake Jackson, TX; a sister Patsy (Randy) Peters of Colorado Springs, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: William “Billy” Kenneth Thompson, Jr.; a sister: Iris Gail Goff.
The family will greet friends on Monday, June 10, 2013 from 10-10:30 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church where a funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM with Father Michael Gieger, officiating. Sandra J. (Sergent) O’Connor, age 71, of Westerville and formerly of Mansfield, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Westerville.
She was born March 21, 1942 in Shelby the daughter of the late Farmer and Atlanta Pearl (Brown) Sergent. She was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and a member of Promise Land Fellowship Church in Mansfield. Starting at the age of 8 Sandy traveled with her family from church to church singing for the Lord. Sandra was an advocate for those who were “down and out,” running a bingo charity in Columbus for many years.
Sandy is survived by her sons: Darren Wade Dean and Rolland O’Connor both of Columbus; a sister: Luena (Granville) Brown of Mansfield; a brother: Thomas Farmer (Cathy) Sergent of Eddy, TX. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband: Rolland O’Connor, brother: John David Hoff, sister: Alice Sagle.

Linda L. Shank, age 72, formerly of Shelby and most recently of Pembroke Pines, Florida, died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Med Central Shelby Hospital after a short illness.
Linda was born on August 4, 1940 in New Washington to the late Benjamin and Birdine (Alt) Alt. She was a 1958 graduate of New Washington High School. While Linda and her late husband, Warren F. Shank, lived in Shelby, she had worked at AMF, Firestone, and Dunlop Tire Company. She was also a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Upon their move to Florida in the mid-1990s, she began working for Behnke and Associates Insurance and had retired from there just this year. In Pembroke Pines, she was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. Linda truly enjoyed cooking, shopping, playing cards, and loved going to the beach.
Linda is survived by 2 daughters: Amy Shank of Pembroke Pines, FL and Andrea (Jeremy) Miller of Shelby; a granddaughter: Brooke Riguet; 3 step-grandchildren: Darian, MaKenna, and Gavin Miller; 4 sisters: Connie (Robert) Kehres of New Washington, Carol (Kenneth) Kimmel of Shelby, Vicki (Bud) Logan of Bucyrus, Laura (John) Updegrave of Port St. Lucie, FL; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Warren, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Sergio Riguet.

Former Shelby resident, Margaret E. (Wagner) Duff, age 91 of Colorado Springs, Colorado, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Margaret and her husband, Roy, moved to Colorado Springs in the 1990’s to be close to their only daughter, Sandra.
Margaret was born August 25, 1921 in Cass Township, Richland County, Ohio the daughter of the late Bernard L. and Isabelle (Enzor) Wagner. She was a 1939 graduate of Shiloh High School and was a member of First Lutheran Church in Shelby.
The Duffs were the owners of Duff Shoe Store for many years in downtown Shelby. When Sandy was growing up, Margaret was very active in the PTA and was a member of the bowling league at the former Rhythm Bowl.
Margaret enjoyed traveling and traveled with Roy to Europe several times to visit Sandra and her family when they resided there. She was the consummate pie baker, a craft she learned from her mother, and was also very artistic. Gardening, flower arranging and painting were a part of her creative side.
She is survived by her husband: Roy A. Duff, whom she wed on February 9, 1941; a daughter: Sandra (Duff) Ensman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 3 granddaughters: Kristina Stillwaugh, Karina Callahan, Kathryn Phanumphai all of Colorado; 4 great grandchildren: Finley Callahan, Rylan Callahan, Paige Stillwaugh and James Austin Stillwaugh; a brother: Robert L. Wagner of Shelby. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a sister: Mary Jeannette (Wagner) Rhodes.

Robert J. “Bob” Berger, age 67, of Crestline, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus following a brief illness.
Bob was born on March 4, 1946 in Mansfield, Ohio, the son of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Shaum) Berger. He was a 1964 graduate of Plymouth High School, after which he joined the United States Navy serving in Vietnam while being stationed on the U.S.S. Gunstonhall. Bob was the owner and active operator of Berger Family Auto Sales in Shelby which he built and opened himself in 1988. He was proud that 60% of his clients were returning customers and he appreciated their loyal support. Bob enjoyed fishing, camping, and watching the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He had recently re-affirmed his commitment with God at Crossroads Community Church in Mansfield. Bob truly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two granddaughters which were his greatest joy. He wanted to enjoy life while he was healthy, and he accomplished that goal.
Bob is survived by his wife, the former Penny Palmer, whom he wed on June 8, 1991; a son, Robert B. Berger of Mansfield; a daughter, Susan M. Berger of Shelby; 2 granddaughters, Jacquelyn Berger and Katie Berger; a brother, Joseph (Phyllis) Berger of Wadsworth; a sister, Sandra (Lavon) Armstrong of Edgerton.

Donald D. Young, age 78, of Bellevue, Ohio died tragically, Thursday, May 9, 2013 in an automobile accident in Marion County, Ohio.
Don was born December 27, 1934 in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Fremont and Hazel (Dager) Young. A 1952 graduate of Elmhurst High School, he served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a tank gunner, after which he attended Indiana University International Business College in Fort Wayne. He was then employed at the Wayne Knitting Mills and the Magnavox Company for whom he transferred to Madison, Ohio in 1969 and to Shelby in 1973. He was also employed as a sales manager for the Carton Service Company, Towmotor, Don Coburn in Ashland, and Tappan in Mansfield. He retired in January 2005 from MTD in Willard.
Don most recently resided in the Mary Lay Home at the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue where he served in several church ministries and took pride in maintaining and beautifying the Shrine grounds. He loved fishing and sports, especially watching his children and grandchildren participate. Don served as an usher and lay distributor for many years for the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby and also served as president of the St. Mary’s School Board. He was also a member of the Red Cross Board in Shelby.
Don is survived by his wife, Sandra (Girardot) Young, of Shelby; three sons, three daughters, and 13 grandchildren: Christopher (Joan) Young of Blacklick, Ohio and children, Elizabeth, Audrey, and Abby; Carter (Carrie) Young of Westerville, Ohio and children, Matt and Nick; Scott (Traci) Young of Valparaiso, Indiana and children, Keenan and Cydney; Karen (Randy) Hay of Bellevue, Ohio and children, Daniel and Shana; Amy (Tim) Strauss of Macedonia, Ohio and children, Logan and Lauren; Linda Young of Shelby and children Maggie and Hayden Gray. Survivors also include a sister, Ruth Kurtz of Crystal Lake, Illinois, a sister-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome on Monday, May 13, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM where a rosary service will be recited at 7:45 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, and also on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 AM at the funeral home. Elsie M. Laser, age 97, of Shelby died Monday, April 15, 2013 at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.
She was born March 12, 1916 in Jamestown, New York the daughter of the late Evald L. and Sigrid M. (Peterson) Nohlquist. Elsie was a retired employee of the Shelby Mutual Insurance Company and was a member of First Lutheran Church in Shelby.
Elsie is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins including: Ed and Sandy Miller of Shelby, Bruce and Marsha Snyder of Shelby, Ray and Jane Mellick of Mansfield. She was preceded in death by her husband: Leon S. Laser on June 8, 1985; 5 sisters: Joyce Treharne, Doris Carlson, Edith Nohlquist, Mildred Miller Brown, Clarice Larson; 2 brothers: Donald and Lester Nohlquist.

Medrith Gwendolyn Brown Bosshardt-James, of St. George, Utah, passed away at age 88 on March 5, 2013.
She was born May 2, 1924 in Lykens Township, Chatfield, Ohio, to Vonna Lee Tway Brown and Harl Edwin Brown. Medrith was married to Harry Bosshardt of San Francisco, who perished when their airplane crashed. She married Albert A. James on September 17, 1966 also of San Francisco. A 1942 graduate of Shelby Senior High School, Medrith enjoyed many activities in life. She loved waterskiing, bowling, bridge, golfing, knitting, sewing and trips home to Ohio. Medrith obtained her formal education at Columbus Business College and worked her way across the country to California. She ended her career by assisting her sister, Rosalyn, who was a court reporter.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Albert A. James on February 7, 2010; a brother, Edwin Brown; sisters, Rosalyn Ronald, Dr. Evelyn Lavery, Leota (William) Hathorn; two nephews, one niece, and best friend, Hilda Ann Reiff Enders.
Medrith is survived by her brother Dr. Harold Tway and Pat Brown of Sugar Grove, Ohio; in-laws, Thomas Lavery of Akron, Faye Brown of Shelby, niece and namesake Medrith Brown of St. George, Utah, 4 other nieces, 7 nephews, 31 great nieces and nephews, and 34 great great nieces and nephews all of whom are scattered throughout the country.
Services were held at the United Methodist Church in St. George, Utah. Graveside services will be held at Lust Cemetery, 6003 State Route 4, Chatfield, Ohio, on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11 AM. Her niece, Major Alice Hathorn, will officiate. Care is being provided by the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby.
