Penwell Turner Funeral Home - Shelby, Ohio

Rev. Carl Glenn Beighley, D.Div.

On Monday morning, August 25, 2025, Rev. Carl Glenn Beighley, D.Div., went to his eternal home to be with JESUS. Carl was an amazing man whose only mission in life was to preach the gospel and to draw people closer to JESUS. Carl loved JESUS, he loved his wife: Barbara Beighley who passed away in 2016; his present wife: Jeannie Beighley; his children: Jim Beighley (Peggie), Crystal Feeney (Brian), Glenn Beighley (Vikki), Wes Beighley (Sara); and his beautiful grandchildren: Kaitlin and Kenzie Feeney, and Tessa, Braden, Brody, and, soon to arrive, Brianna Beighley.

Born August 30, 1929 in Struthers, Ohio to Paul Allen and Mary (Glock) Beighley, Carl attended The Ohio State University until he was drafted into the U.S. Army Signal Corp for the Korean War in August of 1951. In March of 1953, Carl married Barbara June Green and was discharged from the army in August of 1953, at which time he moved back to Columbus to finish his degree. Carl played the trumpet in The Ohio State University marching band and marched in the Rose Bowl parade in California in 1950. Carl graduated from the Ohio State University in 1955, Oberlin Graduate School of Theology in 1958, Vanderbilt University in 1973 with his master’s degree, and went on to receive his Doctor of Divinity from Universal Bible Institute in 1978.
Throughout his years of ministry, Carl served the following churches: Calvary, East Liverpool (1958-1962), 1st Church, Mineral Ridge (1962-1966), Richard Brown, Youngstown (1966-1978), Oberlin First United Methodist (1978-1982), Shelby First United Methodist (1982-1990), Massillon First United Methodist (1990-1995), Retired (1995), and Minister of visitation (1995-1996). Carl was blessed to officiate at his four children’s weddings and on his last official Sunday prior to his retirement, he baptized his twin granddaughters. He later went on to baptize his three other grandchildren.

Carl and Barbara eventually moved to a lovely retirement community, Wedgewood Estates, in Mansfield, Ohio. This is where Carl lived in a beautiful home from 2007 until moving into assisted living in May of 2025.

Carl’s charm, love, and wit will live on in all of his descendants. Our family is blessed to have him not only in our lives, but also in the lives of countless families and friends who encountered his joyous and encouraging persona. He will be so missed, but his teachings and counsel will live on.

Thank you to the amazing staff at Wedgewood Estates and to the staff of Hospice of the Western Reserve.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 11 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512. Rev. JP Snyder, Pastor of Ontario United Methodist Church, will officiate the services. For those wishing, memorial contributions in Carl’s honor may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve (HospiceWR.org/donate).

Care for Carl and his family is being provided by the Penwell Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Condolences may be left on the funeral home’s website (PenwellFuneralHome.com) or their Facebook page (Facebook.com/PenwellFuneralHome).

I was privileged to get to know Rev. Carl & Barb while they helped with visitation at Shelby:First in retirement. Then we were both attending the monthly retiree lunch more recently and I appreciated hearing about his wife, Jeannie. Prayers go out to all the family and friends!

Carl was Pastor of Richard Brown Memorial when my wife Penny, me and our two children started attending . In 1976 Penny and I surrendered our lives to Jesus. Praise Carl and Barb’s faithfulness to the Lord. I’m sure that Penny was glad to see them in the Kingdom Tryumphant!

  8. John Butchko says:

I graduated from Vanderbilt Divinity School in 1980 and moved to South Amherst where I was appointed. I got to know Carl and Barbara there. We were in a group together and would also see him at Rotary. Would see each other through the years. I was fortunate to sit with him and the Waggoners at last years retirement gathering. He was just an extremely decent and faithful man. We did not always see things the same but we both did love Jesus the same
I hope to be present on Friday.

  9. Jerry Beebe says:

My condolences to the Beighley family. I was a preteen ( in the mid-60’s) when my family ( Jerry and Mary Lou) were members of the Mineral Ridge Methodist Church. My parents saw them socially after the move to RB. Years later when I got out of the Army, Barb and Carl found me and my new wife an apartment on the North Side, right next to the Parsonage! We then became members there. My parents were heartbroken when they left the Youngstown area as their social life took a big hit. Although my parents have been gone for a while now, the Beighley family was a big part of my family as well. Again, condolences to Jim, Crystal, Glenn and Wes.

  10. Diane Glowicki says:

Dear Crystal, Brian, Kaitlin Kenzie and the Beighley family, my heartfelt sympathy and prayers for comfort and peace. Your dad/grandpa lived a blessed life. May there be comfort in knowing he rests in eternal peace. Hold closed to your heart all the wonderful memories. Love and many hugs,
    Diane and Don

  11. Anna and Josh Whitaker says:

We are sending our sympathy and condolences to your family. I had the privilege of seeing “grandpa’s” Carl’s heart thru Kaitlin’s eyes and thru her stories she has told us. He sounds like he was such a wonderful man, friend, father, brother, son, and grandpa. I know he will be dearly missed on this earth, but will be waiting with open arms for all of his loved ones in heaven. We will be praying for peace and comfort during this time.

  12. Nancy Jay Alexa Floyd and Ava says:

Our deepest condolences to the Beighley family. Carl was an amazing man and touched many lives as well as ours. His laughter, smile and words of wisdom will be forever in our hearts. Love all of you!

  13. Barbara Eakins says:

My sincere sympathy to Carl’s entire family, but to you Jim especially since Jim and I know you. We got to know Carl when he was living at Wedgewood just across from our friends, Wayne and Doris Keefer. One time when we were visiting there, Carl invited us in to show us their apartment.
We had such a nice visit with him and Barbara. His personality sure came through.
Carl left a wonderful legacy of which you can all be proud.
As was stated in his obituary, his teachings and counsel will live on. Condolences. Jim and Barb Eakins

  14. Mary Beighley says:

I am thinking about you my Beighley cousins during this time. I meet great uncle Carl and great aunt Barbara a few times in my life. Carl was the only Beighley brother that I meet. I enjoyed their company. I remember the few stories that my Dad( Paul Beighley 3rd) had about visiting our grandparents and Thanksgiving dinners together.
    Love Mary Beighley

  15. Bryan George says:

Carl and Barb were such a blessing to our congregation as he helped teach Disciple Bible Study that my mom attended in the late 90’s. He is now part of that great cloud of witnesses cheering us onward to cling to the faith of Jesus Christ.
