Kenneth A. “Kenny” Vogt

Kenneth A. “Kenny” Vogt, age 63, of Crestline, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at his home.

Kenny was born on September 11, 1961 to the late Robert L. and Shirley A. (Ridgley) Vogt.  A 1979 graduate of Crestline High School, Kenny played baseball and graduated as salutatorian of his class. Following high school, Kenny began working at D&W Auto Glass in Mansfield, where he was employed until 1996. He then worked at Jay Plastics until his retirement in 2022. He was also a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

Kenny enjoyed all things outdoors.  From taking care of his lawn to camping, he simply appreciated being outdoors.  Many times, he could be found sitting in a lawn chair in his garage to watch a storm pass by and shared his passion for storm watching with his children. During the winter months, he loved snowmobiling and skiing. An avid supporter of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians, and Cleveland Browns, Kenny could be found watching or listening to a game. He loved listening to music, particularly the Sounds of the 70s and was known for belting songs out loud. Known as “Pops” to his grandchildren, he cherished spending time with them and sharing his love for four-wheeling. A constant prankster who loved scaring people, Kenny will be remembered for his playful spirit, infectious laugh, and all-around silliness. Those who loved Kenny can attest he gave the best hugs and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews.   He appreciated his mom’s cooking and baking and was known to “stop by” for a visit at dinner time. He looked forward to his “poker night” every Wednesday night with his brothers and cousins.

Kenny is survived by his daughters: Rochelle (Brett) Surgener of Oregon and Alyssa Vogt (Dale Staten) of Columbus; stepchildren: Todd Wertman and Kaley (Jason) Schumaker both of Ashland; grandchildren:  Farris Surgener, June Surgener, Sawyer Schumaker, and Nash Wertman; siblings: Russell Vogt of Shelby, Karen (Brian) Alt of Shelby, Brian (Amy) Vogt of Crestline, Kurt (Mel) Vogt of Crestline, Kimberly (Jeff) Hatfield of Crestline, Teresa (Charles) Jessee of Crestline, and Sheryl (Jon) Foley of Shelby; mother-in-law: Amanda Richardson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Stacey (Sattler) Vogt; and father-in-law: Phil Sattler.

Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 10 am-12 noon at the Penwell Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will immediately follow at 12 noon. Deacon Steve Vogt, Kenny’s cousin, will officiate the funeral with burial immediately following in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Cemetery, 5741 State Route 61, Shelby.
