Donald R. “Don” Wetz

Donald R. “Don” Wetz, age 86, formerly of Shelby, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Country Meadow Care Center, in Bellville, Ohio.

Don was born January 8, 1932 in Shelby, the son of the late Faustin and Hazel (Cotter) Wetz. He graduated in 1949 from Shelby High School and received an associate degree in Lithography from Kent State University with a teaching certificate. Don worked his entire career in the printing business having worked at Shelby Sales Book, Shelby Daily Globe, Pioneer Career and Technology Center, Tappan and retired from Shelby Printing.

Don was a very active member of First Lutheran Church in Shelby serving as a member of the church council, the choir and as a greeter. He loved to work in his yard and was always busy. The family enjoyed camping when the children were young.

Don proudly served his country from 1951-1955 in the United States Navy on the USS Sturtevant in the Clemson Class.

Don is survived by 2 sons: Mike (Kim) Wetz of Lexington and Steve (Renee) Wetz of Sylvania; 2 grandchildren: Peyton and Samuel Wetz; 2 step grandchildren: Jeffrey Funston and Deena Liming; 1 step great granddaughter: Tessa Liming; In-laws: Eileen Wetz of Ashland, Sue Wetz of Shelby and Duane (Carolyn) Hoover of Florida. On June 6, 1959 he married Louise A. (Hoover) Wetz and she preceded him in death on November 15, 2015. Also predeceasing him were his parents and 3 brothers: Kenneth, Robert, and Dwight Wetz.

Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 2-4 PM at the PENWELL TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at First Lutheran Church at 10:30 am with Pastor Rus Yoak officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
