Dolores M. Smail

Dolores M. Smail, age 82, of Mansfield, died Saturday, December 4, 2021 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital with her family by her side.

Dolores was born January 20, 1939 in Olive Hill, KY to the late James Marion and Goldie (Stevens) Bond. Throughout her life she worked at various places, most of the time at a location where one of her sisters was also working, and sometimes carried multiple jobs at one time so she could support her family. A notable place of employment for Dolores was Lumbermens Insurance in Mansfield.

Dolores absolutely adored her immediate and extended family and spending time with them was always a priority. She attended countless events, hardly ever missing anything, and was always the one planning family gatherings. Dolores loved going to the casino, had been an avid bowler, and enjoyed country and bluegrass music. She also was a traveler having visited all 50 states and gone on multiple cruises.

Dolores had an impact on any life she touched and was very much loved. She had a giving heart and accumulated many friends because of her warm and welcoming personality. She will be missed by her 3 children: Randy (Anita) Cains of Shenandoah, Regena (Steve) Shaver of Shelby, and Ronda Cains-Lambert of Shenandoah; 10 grandchildren: Jessie (Shirley) Cains, Mandy (Ryan) Gillam, Amber (Aaron) Thompson, Ryan (Brittany) Cains, Dr. Aaron Shaver, Austin Shaver, Tonia (Joshua) Amonds, Michael (Jake) Lambert, Jenna Lambert, and Jared (Paige) Lambert; 19 great grandchildren; 4 sisters: Loraine See, Faye Jarrell, Phyllis See, and Shirley (Charlie) Tackett; 4 brothers: Vernon (Ines) Bond, Gale (Ella) Bond, Raymond (Nancy) Bond, Curt (Sharon) Bond; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Gary Curtis Smail, on November 22, 2015; a grandson: Joshua Lambert; a great grandson: Jayden Amonds; a sister: Louise Sweet; and 2 brothers: Romie Bond and Gary Bond.
Family and friends are welcome on Friday, December 10, 2021 from 5-7 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11 am at Franklin Cemetery on Franklin Church Road, Mansfield. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.StJude.org/donate).

    I was very blessed to be loved by Aunt Dolores. I have been thinking A lot about the week she went to Poppy Mountain Bluesgrass festival in 2000.. we had so much fun that week. I just wish we’d have had more trips together! I will miss her as much as I miss Uncle Gary! I love all of you guys and my heart is also for all of us!

    There are no words to describe this amazing lady. I had known her all my life and know that she loved her family and friends with her entire being. She lit up a room when she walked in it and her smile and laughter were infectious. I’m a better person for knowing this lady and offer my deepest condolences to her family.
