Annis M. Smith

Annis M. Smith, age 91, of Shelby, died Sunday, October 3, 2021 at Elmcroft of Ontario.

Annis was born October 12, 1929 in Ashland to the late Roy and Eva (Dull) Potter. She was a 1949 graduate of Ashland High School and, prior to her marriage, worked at Ohio Dairy in Ashland. Annis spent her life being a mother and a wife. She excelled at providing and caring for her family.

Annis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby. She also loved reading, knitting, doing puzzles, and enjoyed playing bingo.

On July 15, 1951, she married Virgil E. Smith Sr. and he preceded her in death on March 28, 1992. In addition to her parents and husband, Annis was preceded in death by her son: Virgil Smith Jr.; siblings: Lelah Emminger and Frank C. Potter; and her nephew: Ronald Emminger. Annis is survived by her daughter: Loretta (John) Barrett of Shelby; daughter in law: Eileen Smith of Shelby; grandchildren: Scott Smith of Crestline and Jill (Tobey) Stoffer of Bucyrus; greatgrandchildren: Gage Stoffer, Hayli Stoffer, Sarah Smith, and Tyler Smith; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Graveside services will be held Friday, October 8, 2021 at 10:30 am at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh with Rev. James MacDonald officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org/donate or the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org/donate.
