Paul Eugene Thomas
Paul Eugene Thomas, age 83 of Shelby, died Saturday evening, July 19, 2014 at Elmcroft of Ontario.
Paul was born January 27, 1931, at the family farm in Lexington, Ohio, to Emerson and Bertha (Siegfried) Thomas. He was a graduate of Ontario High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1948-1951. He reenlisted in the U.S. Army serving in Korea during the Korean War from 1951-1953. For 32 years he was the shipping and receiving supervisor at PPG in Crestline, retiring in 1991. Paul and his wife, Maxine, made ceramics for many years and sold their artistic creations at shows all across Ohio.
He is survived by 2 daughters: Becky Bertke of Shelby and Terri Thomas of Crestline; a granddaughter: Sarah (Sam) Schumacher of Columbus; 2 sisters: Ilo (Albert) Bertin of Alabama, and Helen Kiser of Galion; 3 brothers: Carl Thomas of Lexington, Richard Thomas of Bucyrus, and Lowell Thomas of Arizona. Paul was preceded in death by his wife: Mary Maxine (Steffee) Thomas in 2009; a daughter: Cathy Sue Thomas in 1957; 3 brothers: Donald Thomas, Harold Thomas, and Ray Thomas.
Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 from 5-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 1 PM by his neighbor, Father James Sanford. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery in Johnsville, Ohio with military honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
