Linda Siler Sherman Clark

Linda Siler Sherman Clark, age 84, of Mansfield, died early Thursday morning, May 5, 2022 at The Waterford at Mansfield.

Linda, born September 17, 1937 in Ashland to the late Lyman and Reba (Korns) Siler, was the first female to be born in the Siler Family in five generations. She was a 1956 graduate of Ashland High School and, at the age of 15, worked as a waitress at the Lyn-Way Restaurant in Ashland- a job she fondly reminisced about and to this day still enjoyed a great piece of pie and a meal. Linda was a retired employee of Packaging Corp of America in Ashland. Prior to that she was the manager of Rhythm Bowl in Shelby where she started the children’s bowling league and enjoyed teaching many children how to bowl.

Linda was an active woman her entire life who was always welcoming, never meeting a stranger but rather always making a friend. Her friends were not limited to humans as she was an animal whisperer and lover always feeding and caring for animals both wild and domestic. Linda loved the outdoors, especially working in her garden and yard, and loved to fish. She was a sports fanatic following all sports but especially the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, The Ohio State University Buckeyes, and Duke University men’s and women’s basketball. As an athlete herself, she was an avid bowler and golfer and was instrumental in forming the Shelby girls’ softball youth league in 1968 of which she also coached. Together with her late husband, Bill, Linda enjoyed traveling and was especially fond of spending time with her family. She had a close group of friends which she remained extremely active with and enjoyed daily trips for morning coffee at various local restaurants. She herself was an outstanding cook, enjoyed playing cards, and was a Girl Scout leader when her girls were young. Most importantly, Linda was an honest God-fearing woman who lived her life and raised her family with strong Christian values.

On March 21, 1981, Linda married her husband, George William “Bill” Clark, Jr., and he preceded her in death on March 1, 2010. Also preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Dennis Siler. Survivors include her children: Monica (Dan) Wilson of Erwin, TN, Celeste Hummel of Galion, Cathy (Dennis) Esterline of Shelby, Tim (Lisa) Sherman of Dobson, NC; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother: Keith (Eloise) Siler; sister-in-law: Jan Siler; former sister-in-law: Nancy Zorn; and other relatives and friends.

Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, May 8, 2022 from 2-5 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 11 am. Pastor Rick Utt will officiate the services with burial following in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. Memorial contributions may be made to Avita Home Health and Hospice,

Monica, Celeste, Cathy, Tim and families: My sincere condolences to all of you during this difficult time. My heart aches for you, but at the same time it is full as I recall, as a little girl, the many times I’d skip from my back yard on Broadway to yours on Second Street to play. Linda was always so kind, welcoming and always smiling. She was a part of some of my best memories of growing up, be it playing at the Sherman’s, ladies bowling leagues and, of course, many years of softball. My thoughts are with you all. May your many fond memories far outweigh the sorrow you are feeling at this time. Rest in peace, Linda. Thank you for being a part of my happy childhood.
