Janice L. Seidel

Janice L. Seidel, age 89, of Shelby, died Tuesday morning, January 12, 2021 at Lexington Court Care Center.

Janice was born April 25, 1931 in North Fairfield, Ohio to the late Walter and Violet (Newman) Silliman. She attended and graduated from Greenwich High School. Prior to her marriage, Janice had been employed at Pioneer Balloon in Willard. On February 22, 1952, she married Paul A. Seidel and traveled with him while he served in the United States Navy. Upon returning home, Janice became employed at Shelby Spring Hinge until its closing and then began a career at Shelby Business Forms, retiring under the Miami Systems ownership.

Janice was generous with her time in volunteering especially at Shelby Hospital where she had been a faithful volunteer for 30+ years. She also was a member of the Shelby Hospital Guild, serving as their treasurer. A very active and faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Janice enjoyed singing in the choir and was active with the United Methodist Woman where she helped with funeral dinners and served as their treasurer for many years. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds, especially hummingbirds, and was an excellent baker of pies.

Her husband, Paul, preceded her in death on March 6, 2008, along with her parents, and sisters, Lois Garrett and Nancy Milliron. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law: Mary Jo and Jim Stepp of Shelby; her son: Rodney Seidel of South Ogdon, UT; grandchildren: Trent (Irsol) Stepp, James (Kay) Stepp, and Heather (Chris) Braun; great grandchildren: Haleigh (Nick) Kanouse, Alex Lozier, Samantha Stepp, Matthew Stepp; Reagan Stepp, and Liam Stepp; great great grandchild: Ashton Kanouse; brother-in-law: Robert Seidel; sister-in-law: Patricia Kamann; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Family and friends are welcome on Friday, January 15, 2021 from 10-11am at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will immediately follow at 11 am. Pastor Jeff Croft will officiate the services and burial will follow in North Fairfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shelby Helpline Ministries, 29 Walnut Street, Shelby, or First United Methodist Church, 18 South Gamble Street, Shelby.
