Virgil Adams

Virgil Adams, 66, of 47 Elm St. died Thursday at Shelby Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born December 28, 1918, in Paintsville, KY, he was a former employee of Martin Steel Co. of Mansfield and AMF Inc. of Shelby. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Elm Street Freewill Baptist Church in Shelby, where he served as deacon and trustee and was a member of the Northeastern Conference of Ohio State Association of the denomination.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Gayheart Adams, whom he married May 5, 1944; two sons, Virgil Jr. of Long Beach, CA, and Roger D. of Shelby; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Phyllis) Fetter of Crestline and Gerry Spencer of Marblehead; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers, Audie of Ashland, KY, Dearl of Shelby, Basie of Ashland, OH, Lloyd of Columbus, and Henry of Myrtle Beach, SC; and two sisters, Mrs. Carroll (Viola) Armentrout of Olivesburg and Mrs. Charles (Maxie) Cantrel of Van Lear, KY. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Elm Street Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Delmon Rose and the Rev. Virgil McClain. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. Calling hours will be after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church, where Mr. Adams will lie in state until the time of services. Brother Kevin Evans and Brother Herman Copley will conduct services at 7 p.m. Sunday. The Turner Funeral Home in Shelby is in charge of arrangements.
