Stephen J. Caudill

Stephen J. Caudill, age 50, of 64 Linn Road, Mansfield, died unexpectedly Wednesday, November 15, 2000 at his home.

He was born August 14, 1950 in Shelby. He was a 1968 graduate of Crestview High School and in 1976 he received an associates degree from North Central Technical College in police science and administration. He attended and graduated from over 22 advanced law enforcement schools throughout the country. Steve was a K-9 officer and former deputy and chief detective for the Ashland County Sheriff Department. He was awarded the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Award for a homicide investigation–the highest award in the county. He was the chief of Police in Plymouth for 5 1/2 years and was an investigator and inspector for the Industrial Commission of Ohio. He worked as an undercover drug officer throughout the State of Ohio and was currently a Lieutenant with the Greenwich police department. He was also the owner of Caudill Excavating. He was the past president of Huron County FOP Lodge #185, was a 32 year member of AFL-CIO, and was a past member of the Ashland County Pilots’ Association.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda (Keener) Caudill whom he wed on December 7, 1985; 2 sons: Stephen J. Caudill, II of Pittsburgh, PA and Arthur Caudill of Ashland; 2 step-sons: Stephen Motter of Landover, MD, and Andrew Motter of Honalulu, HI; 1 grandchild; 3 step-grandchildren; 1 brother Dr. Dennis Caudill of Kannapolis, NC; his mother Gladys Caudill of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by his father, Clay Caudill in 1989.

Calling hours will be on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Edward
