Ray Barber

Ray Barber, age 97, of 4240 Laser Road, Shelby, died Sunday afternoon, November 17, 1996, at his home after a short illness. He was born March 8, 1899 in Paragon, Kentucky the son of Clay and Virgie (Utterback) Barber.

Mr. Barber retired in 1966 from the Ohio Steel Tube Co. after 31 years of service. He was also a farmer and an Army veteran of World War I.

He is survived by 3 sons and 3 daughters-in-law, Winford E. and Dorothy Barber of Mansfield, Elwood and Jean Barber of Mansfield, and Eugene and Barbara Barber of Woodburn, Indiana; 2 daughters, Mildred Sturdavant of Baldin, Michigan and Marie Robinson of Shelby; 14 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren; 1 brother, Claude Barber of Shelby and 1 sister, Maude Lybarger of Shelby.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertis (Staton) Barber on May 25, 1993, by 2 daughters, Murray Barber and Lois Barber, by 3 brothers, Harley Barber, Kit Barber, Carl Barber and by 1 granddaughter, Kim Boggs.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Doug Tackett, Pastor of the Taylortown Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Park in Lexington.
