Lauretta G. “Laurie” (Fabrizio) DeMarinis

Lauretta G. “Laurie” (Fabrizio) DeMarinis, age 67, of 1049 Springmill Street, Mansfield, Ohio died Sunday morning, November 15, 1998 at her home after a long battle with cancer.

She was born November 12, 1931 in Akron, Ohio the daughter of the late Sam and Lena (Massaro) Fabrizio and lived in Youngstown, Ohio for 30 years before moving to the Mansfield- Shelby area.

Lauretta graduated in 1949 from Ursuline High School in Youngstown and in 1955 from Youngstown State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She taught in elementary schools, both public and parochial, for 11 years in the Youngstown area and was also a former substitute teacher in the Shelby-Mansfield area in both public and parochial schools. She did post graduate work at Ashland University and The Ohio State University.

Lauretta was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby and was instrumental in starting the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Prayer Group at the former MSC Center in Shelby. She was a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors for many years and a former member of the Ohio Education Teachers Association.

She is survived by her husband, A. Donald DeMarinis, whom she wed on December 30, 1961, at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church in Youngstown. They were married by her brother, Father Henry Fabrizio. Lauretta is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Krista
DeMarinis of Dublin, Ohio and a daughter, Marita DeMarinis of Mansfield; 2 grandsons: Evan and Collin DeMarinis of Dublin; a brother, Father Henry Fabrizio of Youngstown; a sister, Margaret Zena of Youngstown; a niece, Laura Ann Fabrizio of Youngstown; and 2 nephews: Gary Fabrizio and Attorney Thomas Zena both of Youngstown. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Albert Fabrizio.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, from 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street in Shelby where a Christian Wake service will be conducted at 8:45 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby with Father John C. Missler officiating. Burial will be in Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Cemetery.

All those attending the funeral mass are invited to gather for a time of fellowship at a luncheon in McFadden Hall at St. Mary School in Shelby (across from the church) following the services at the cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made at the funeral home for Masses or to Hospice of North Central Ohio in Ashland.
