Ethel V. (Culp) Hay

Ethel V. Hay, age 98, of 4 Smiley Gardens, Shelby, died Wednesday, February 24, 1999 at Med Central Shelby Hospital after a short illness.

Mrs. Hay was born August 8, 1900 in Munday, Athens County, Ohio the daughter of William Fredick and Lulu Mae (Hayden) Culp. she was a former employee of Shelby Metal Products
and the Webison Hotel in Shelby. Mrs. Hay was well-known for baking wedding and birthday cakes. At the age of 92, and having never driven a day in her life, she appeared on the Ohio Lottery Show where she won a new Chevy Blazer. Mrs. Hay enjoyed bingo and played every
night up until the time of her death. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church
in Shelby, a 62-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, A.A.R.P., the V.F. W. Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, and was a past Councilor of the Daughters of America.

Mrs. Hay is survived by 3 grandchildren and spouses: Nancy Jane Sampsel, Thomas Edward and Shirley Ann Sampsel, and John Jacob and Judith Ann Sampsel, all of Mansfield; 6 great-
grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Hay in 1978; a son, Elmer John Hay in 1961; a daughter, Lulu Jane Sampsel Stiteler in 1991; 2 brothers: Charles Lee Alton Culp and George Lee Roy Culp; and a sister, Susie Marie Lands.

Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main
iStreet in Shelby, where funeral services will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. James Humphrey officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shelby Memorial Hospital Foundation in care of the funeral home.
