Dan C. McClain

Dan C. McClain, age 84, formerly of 12 Glenwood Drive, Shelby, died Friday night in Shelby Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. He was born September 10, 1907 in Kirby, Ohio, Wyandot County, the son of Elmore and Leefe (Kotterman) McClain.

Mr. McClain was a graduate of Forest, Ohio, High School, Marion Business College, and The Ohio University Executive Developement Program. He was a former semi-pro football and basketball player. Mr. McClain was the Parma Division Manager for Columbia Gas of Ohio retiring in
1972 after 46 years of service. He served the company as Manager of Operations in Crestline, Circleville, Chillicothe, and Parma, Ohio.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelby; Lodge #23 F. & A.M. in Circleville, Ohio; and was an honorary member of the Parma Athletic Federation and the Parma Municipal Athletic Association. He was the past president of the Parma Chamber of Commerce, Parma Kiwanis Club, and Parma Public Schools Booster Club. He was a past board member of the Parma Community Hospital and the Parma Y.M.C.A He was past chairman of the Parma Red Cross and Parma Chamber of Commerce Safety Awards Committee. He was selected as the Outstanding Citizen of Parma for 1967-1968 and was named Most Prominent Senior Citizen
of Cuyahoga County in 1970. The Ohio Senate passed a resolution honoring him for public service to Parma and Cuyahoga County.

Mr. McClain is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law: John and Nona McClain of Dillsboro, Indiana; 1 granddaughter Emily McClain; and 1 sister Anna Bonnell of Lebanon, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn H. (Knapp) McClain in October of 1984; by 4 brothers: Jay, Walter, Russell, and Bert McClain; as well as 3 sisters: Iva Liles, Orphea Fox, and Buleah Roby.

Calling hours will be on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home where Masonic services will be held at 8:30 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at the Turner Funeral Home with his pastor the Rev. Lyle Hinkle, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.

Memorial expressions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the American Cancer Society and left in care of the funeral home.
