Wilma Jean Edwards

Wilma Jean Edwards, age 78, of Shelby, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Crestline Nursing Center in Crestline.

She was born September 20, 1936 in Chillicothe, Ohio the daughter of the late John S. and Beulah (Lykens) Kennard.

She was a 1954 graduate of Willard High School.  She retired from United Church Directories in Galion and had previously worked at Miami Systems in Shelby. Jean was in a group that was instrumental in getting the Shelby City Schools to start their kindergarten program and was a member of the Young Timers Mothers Club. Jean was a wealth of knowledge on her family’s history. She knew all the birth dates of her immediate family as well as all the nieces, nephews and cousins. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and crocheting; however, her greatest joy was spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren.

Survived by 2 daughters: Jill (Bob) Humphrey of Shelby and Susan Wolf of Ashland; 3 sons: Jack (Suzan) Dunbar of California, Jim (Sally) Dunbar of Shelby and Jerry Dunbar (Deborah Bauer) of Florida; 7 grandchildren: Helen (Andrew) Martin, Brett (Laurie) Dunbar, Lauren Williams, BJ (Emily) Humphrey, Emily (Free) Reyes, Erika Whatman,  Nolan Wolf;  10 great grandchildren; Step mother: Georgia Zoll; Aunt: Jewel Adams of Willard;  Brother: Dr. Gregory (Beverly) Kennard of Tennessee; Brother-in-law: Gene Haynes of Willard; 3 Step children: Marsha Porter of Shelby, Rhonda Edwards of Millersburg, and Scott (Lisa) Edwards of Georgia;

Numerous nieces and nephews; Numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Ross G. Edwards in 1990; 3 grandchildren: Elizabeth Jean Dunbar, Jackson Dunbar, and Juliette Dunbar; 2 sisters: Donna Haynes and Patty Jo Kennard; 3 step children: Brenda Thompson, Lisa Bernhart and Darrell Porter; 2 half-brothers: Randy Kennard and Jeff Kennard.

Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 1-4 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 10 AM with her cousin Rev. J. Art Kennard, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to Ohio Health Hospice or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
