William F. “Bill” Schroeder

William F. “Bill” Schroeder, age 69, of Shelby, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. His death came unexpectedly during a minor heart procedure.

Bill was born November 4, 1954 in Shelby to the late Eugene J. and Mary Ann (Follman) Schroeder. A 1973 graduate of Buckeye Central High School and Pioneer Joint Vocational School, Bill worked for 27 years in the cable tv industry. He then took a position with the City of Shelby as a lineman for his remaining 8.5 working years. An early diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 46 altered Bill and his family’s life taking each step as it came. He was open to various forms of treatment and therapy, adapted with change, and remained positive in the journey. Bill truly became an ambassador and advocate for Parkinson’s doctors and patients, helping others know the benefits of care and treatment and how to live full and joyous lives.

And living a joyous and full life is exactly what Bill did. His passion was golf, being a scratch golfer for years. He thoroughly enjoyed giving lessons and being a Shelby Whippet Golf Team Assistant Coach for his son, Justin, for several years. Additionally, he had coached Shelby Little League, and had also served on their Board of Directors, and Shelby YMCA basketball when his sons, Justin and Curtis, were younger.

Bill had a true love for God’s land and nature. Coming from a family of farmers, farming has always been in his blood, having continuously helped on the farm since childhood. He found solace in creating and caring for food plots to grow and nurture animals and always found peace in being outdoors, especially when hunting.

Bill was a true family man who loved his wife, sons, and grandchildren with everything he had. He was forever their advocate and supporter. His loving wife, Francine Helen “Fran” (Robey) Schroeder, whom he married November 14, 1981, survives, along with their sons and daughters-in-law: Justin (Larissa) Schroeder of Shelby and Curtis (Alisha) Schroeder of Marysville; grandchildren: Grayson, Jaxon, Zane, Mya, Brody, and Ivy; siblings: Sue (Pat) Logsdon of New Washington, Patty (Russ) Todd of Galena, and John (Angel) Schroeder of Shelby; brothers-in-law: Curt (Sally) Robey and Steve (Rhonda) Robey; step mother-in-law: Dorothy Robey; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 10:30 am at Core Community Church, 18 Seneca Drive, Shelby, where Bill was a member. Pastor Ben Carver will officiate the services with burial following in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby Athletic Boosters for the benefit of the Golf Program, C/O Cathy Dodge, 145 Mansfield Avenue, Apt. #7, Shelby, Ohio 44875.

Condolences may be left on Bill’s obituary on the funeral home’s website (PenwellTurner.com) or their Facebook page (Facebook.com/PenwellFuneral).
