Wayne Sherman

Wayne Sherman, age 91, of Galion, died Monday, October 20, 2014 at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus after a brief unexpected illness.

Wayne was born July 8, 1923 in Galion, Ohio, the son of the late Arthur and Ethel (Ewers) Sherman. He was a graduate of Galion High School. Wayne was well known in the Galion community for his profession of selling cars. He began his career at Bishop-Suver Lincoln Mercury of Galion. The highlight of his career was selling for Patterson Pontiac Oldsmobile. The dealership was sold and became Angelini Pontiac Oldsmobile from which Wayne retired. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Galion, a life member of Galion Elks Lodge #1191, and a former member of the Galion Lions Club. Wayne loved to watch OSU football whether it be at home on the television, at Ohio Stadium, or even at a couple of Rose Bowls.

Wayne is survived by a son: Philip Wayne Sherman of Galion and his dear friend, Linda Lambert; 3 grandchildren: Candy Russell, Derrick (Tasha) Sherman, Kevin Wayne Sherman; 6 great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law: Nieta Sherman Boyce. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 67 years, Agnes Marie (Harbourt) Sherman on April 20, 2012; a son, Eric Sherman in 1990; and a brother: Chester Sherman.

Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Galion, 240 S Market Street, Galion, Ohio 44833 where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Rev. Julie Fogle and Rev. Katherine Beckett will officiate and burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru), Attn: Contributions, P.O. Box 628222, Orlando, FL 32862. Care for Wayne and his family is being provided by Bob, Catherine, and Jake at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby.

    Wayne was such a nice person. We had some business dealings with him and always found him to be such a nice and honest person. And, whenever we would see him anyplace, he always had a smile on his face and would take time to visit. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you.
