Virginia L. Petrie

Virginia L. Petrie, age 83, of Shelby, died Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Arbors at Mifflin in Mansfield.
She was born July 21, 1934 in Shelby, the daughter of the late George Wilson and Marcia Frances (Abbott) Petrie, and was a 1952 graduate of Shelby High School. Virginia began her working career at Shelby Business Forms, was the first manager of Shelby’s AAA office and was a secretary for Shelby City Schools. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and was a lover of all animals, especially cats.
Virginia is survived by her nephews: Al and Sally Petrie of Attica and Grant and Sandy Petrie of Xenia; Several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister-in-law: Frank and Barb Petrie and a nephew: Matthew Petrie.
Family and friends are welcome on Monday, August 28, 2017 from 10-11 AM at Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be held at 11 AM. Pastor Dan Clouse, Bereavement Coordinator for Southern Care Hospice, will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

    We are so sorry for your loss. Virginia was truly a special lady and such a part of our lives for so many years.
    So many wonderful memories of her and her Mom while we lived on South Gamble and Auburn Avenue.

    Virginia was one of my 1952 classmates. She always had a smile on her face and she was always a pleasure to talked to. I never saw Virginia after graduations. But several times over the years I have thought about her. God Bless your soul Virginia. Paul

    “Ginnie” she told me is what her friends call her. I knew her as a kind and caring neighbor for a year. She so loved her cats. She even helped me with a stray cat. I enjoyed her company and though we parted ways do to my leaving Shelby without saying goodbye, I say goodbye now Virginia and God Bless you.
