Venus E. (Prater) Ingram
Venus E. Prater Ingram, age 103, of Shelby, died on January 29, 2018 at Ontario Point, just 12 days shy of her 104th birthday.
Venus was born February 10, 1914 in Magoffin County, Kentucky the daughter of the late Warren Blaine and Elizabeth (Bailey) Prater. On December 24, 1941 she married Eathern Ingram in Hartford, KY and they moved to Shelby in January of 1942. During World War II, Venus followed her husband on his deployments to Smyrna, TN and Lockbourne, OH. Private Ingram was an aircraft mechanic with the Eastern Flying Training Command. Venus returned to Shelby early in 1945 and was joined by her husband later that year.
She was a 30-year member Ruth Chapter Order of the Eastern Star having joined the Rizpah Chapter in Shelby in 1988. She had attended the Shelby Nazarene Church for many years. Venus was a 24-year employee of Kroger’s in Shelby retiring in 1972. She gave many hours of volunteer service to the Shelby Hospital gift shop and enjoyed quilting, needlework and flowers.
Venus is survived by a daughter: Laverne Ingram Piatt (Charles Edward) of Springfield Township; 2 granddaughters: Sarah Piatt McNary (Joel A. Jr.) of Phoenixville, PA and Rebecca Piatt Fleck (Theodore Norman III) of Aurora, OH; 3 great grandsons: Michael Iain McNary, Brian David McNary, and Riley Tucker Fleck. Also, survived by a step-daughter: Loma Gail Ingram Powers; 5 step-grandchildren: John D. Powers, Larry C. Powers, Reba Gail Powers, Ramona Powers and Richard Powers, as well as, step-great grandchildren and step-great great grandchildren; a brother: Winfrey Prater (Peggy Ann) of Newark, OH; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eathern, on August 8, 1986; her parents; 9 sisters and 1 brother and their spouses: Hazel (Hubert H.) Belcher, Jewell (Lois Franklin) Chapman, Virginia (Charles Werner) King, Nell (Gordon H.) Patrick, James B. Franklin (Geneva Holland) Prater, Edith Maxine (Claude Dale) Shoemaker, Nettie Carroll (Robert C.) Alward, Malta Marie Prater, Lillie Garnet (James Robert) Goetz, Velma Lorraine (Norbitt D.) Pruden.
Family and Friends are welcome on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 10-11 am
at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Eastern Star services will be conducted at 11 am immediately followed by the funeral service conducted by Rev. Lester Champer. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to OhioHealth Shelby Hospital Guild.
