Penwell Turner Funeral Home - Shelby, Ohio

Todd E. Albert

Todd E. Albert, age 68, of Shelby, died Friday night, March 25, 2022 at his home.

Todd was born July 20, 1953 in Shelby to Kenneth W. and Jean M. (Hart) Albert. He was a 1971 graduate of Shelby High School where he excelled in athletics, a talent which eventually led him to being a member of the Shelby Blues. He was a major supporter of local athletic programs; from many years of coaching Little League to leading capital improvements at the local fields. Todd rarely missed a chance to attend a family members’ sporting event.  It was always a priority for him to be in attendance when a family member had a game or event – no matter how far down the family tree.

Todd’s core values were strength in family, hard work, and coaching others to their fullest potential. With everything he did in life, those values were evident. Although growing up they may not have had a lot, they always had family and each other. After his father’s early death, his mother’s resiliency and strength in raising their family drove Todd to work tirelessly for those he cared about. Todd enjoyed being the caretaker of the family “farm” and hosting family gatherings with his wife, Lorna. After the passing of his mother, hosting holiday and weekly gatherings at the farm became an important role for Todd and Lorna in order to maintain the closeness of their extended families. He and Lorna also loved to travel together as well as with their kids and grandkids.  Just two short weeks ago, they enjoyed an outstanding trip to Walt Disney World together.

Professionally, Todd spent 45 years in the insurance industry. His career began with Shelby Mutual Insurance in 1972 as a night shift computer operator; eventually working his way up to become the Vice President of Information Systems; a position he held until the Mutual’s closing. In 2001 he joined Ohio Mutual Insurance Group as Vice President of Information Technology where he proudly served until his retirement in 2018. Throughout his career, Todd was personally recognized for industry awards and accolades, but he found the most professional joy in the achievements of his team.  Todd had a unique ability to surface the untapped talent within his people, give them the right opportunities and coach them to successful careers.

Todd is survived by his wife, Lorna J. (Tarvin) Albert, whom he wed on June 7, 1985; 2 sons and daughters-in-law:  Michael and Alicen Albert of Westerville and Cody and Felicia Albert of Shelby; 5 grandchildren: Cash, Livi, Elle, Kate, and Cora; his siblings: Pam (Joe) Wetton of California, Kenny (Cathie) Albert of Shelby; Jody (Merv) Eichorn of Lexington, and Kurt (Brandy) Albert of Mt. Gilead; his in-laws: Col. Michael D. (Amy) Tarvin of Texas and Tim (Kari) Tarvin of Shelby; and a close knit connection of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father: Kenneth W. Albert in 1961; mother: Jean M. (Hart) Albert Spangler in 2002; and his mother and father-in-law: David P. and Jeanne M. Tarvin.

Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 from 3-7 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 10:30 am. Col. Michael D. Tarvin, his brother-in-law, will officiate the services with burial following in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to The Shelby Foundation, 142 North Gamble Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875.

For those unable to attend, sympathy may be expressed by leaving an online condolence on Todd’s obituary at www.PenwellTurner.com or by leaving a comment on his obituary post on the funeral home’s Facebook page, Facebook.com/PenwellFuneral.
