Thomas Edward “Tom” Quinlan

Thomas Edward “Tom” Quinlan, age 49, of Shelby, died unexpectedly following cardiac arrest on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital.

Tom was born on June 17, 1972 in Crestline, OH. He was a 1991 graduate of Shelby High School and attended Pioneer Joint Vocational School in the culinary arts program. Tom thoroughly enjoyed cooking. He had worked at The Coffee Shop in downtown Shelby as their head cook and in various jobs in Akron before becoming disabled. Tom was a member of the Messiah’s House of Prayer in Shiloh.

Tom loved to watch NFL football and wrestling, especially WWE and Hulk Hogan. He enjoyed playing the lottery- scratch offs were his favorite. Tom was a joker and loved to make people laugh. Although Tom was private, he never knew a stranger and was always kind to those he met.

Tom is survived by his loving mother, who was his best friend, and step-father: Debbie and Dan Heichelbech of Shelby; beloved sister: Jenny Amstutz of San Francisco, CA; cherished children: Michael Quinlan and Heather Quinlan Kirscher both of PA; grandson: Elijah; two grandsons on the way; special aunt and cousin: Carol Salvati and Shawn; dear girlfriend: Margie; best dog: Winston; and other relatives and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his father: Ronald Eugene Quinlan.

Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 11-1pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will immediately follow at 1 pm. Pastor Bill Howell will officiate and burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby.

    I’m so sorry to hear of Toms passing he had many staff members that send condolences to Toms family during his stay at Liberty nursing center he made many friends that are saddened to hear of his passing may God comfort you at this time

    Condolences to my second family during this time. I’ll never forget all the great moments we have shared with Tom . He was hilarious and had a sense of humor not many have! I’ll never forget the time he had a fake witch nose on with goofy glasses orders a small fry from McDonald’s with it on and asks the lady a bunch of funny questions and everyone laughed the whole night. There are so many memories with laughter and joy. Until we meet again rest easy father Quinlan ❤️

    Rest easy buddy! Me and Tom always had our lockers close together in school. Tommy has always been fun, I seen him a few years back at Quiznos and he instantly knew who I was! My mom had a stay with him at the nursing home and she really enjoyed Tommy’s company! Gone too soon!

    I am very sorry Deb. I just don’t know what to say. I am glad God reunited us when he was getting home care. I thought the world of Tommy. I’ll never forget first time I met him. Long story but he was there because my mom brought him home our friendship snowballed from there. I’ll be praying for all of you.burrying a child is never easy.
