Thomas Edward Korbas

Thomas Edward Korbas, 83, of Greenwood, Indiana passed away on May 26, 2021 at the Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Tom was born on May 27, 1937 in Shelby, Ohio to the late John and Mary Korbas.

Tom graduated in 1955 from Shelby High School, where he was a member of the golf team. He served in the US Army and Army Reserves from 1960-1966, including time at the DMZ in Korea.

Tom married Judith Hetler in 1963 in Mansfield Ohio. Tom and Judy traveled throughout the continental US and Canada with friends and family and expanded their travels after retirement to include Alaska, Hawaii and several Caribbean islands. Tom was a life-long golfer and played for many years in several golf leagues, as well as playing Sunday mornings with family and friends. He enjoyed TV and movie westerns and military shows, hunting and fishing, playing card games with his grandchildren, and spending time with his large extended family. Tom worked for Ohio Seamless Tube (Tuby) for more than 30 years until he retired in 1999. He was a member of the American Legion and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus.

Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judith (Hetler) Korbas; two daughters, Annette Korbas of Greenwood, Indiana, and Rose Ortiz of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; and three grandchildren, Andrew Ortiz (Kayli), Dominic Ortiz and Rachel Ortiz; brothers Rudy Korbas, Jim Korbas (Ann), Mike Korbas (Patty) and sister Theresa Tash; brother-in-law Fred (Jeannie) Hetler; sister-in-law Mary Stirtzinger; a very large and loving extended family, and many, many friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his son Brian Korbas, parents John and Mary Korbas; brothers Steve (Gaylee) Korbas, Joe (Virginia) Korbas, and Paul Korbas; sister Marianne Korbas; sister-in-law Marilyn Korbas; and brother-in-law Philip Stirtzinger.

The family thanks the staff at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN for their care, support, and compassion.

Family and friends are welcome Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, from 2-4 pm and 5-7 pm, where the rosary will be recited at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 10:30 am at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 29 West Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875. Fr. Chris Mileski will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church or to the Indianapolis VAMC Homeless Veterans Program, 1481 West 10th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202-2884, make checks payable to Indianapolis VAMC-135 in the memo of check put *Homeless Veterans Program*.
