Thelma M. Humphrey

Thelma M. Humphrey, age 96, of Shelby, died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

Thelma was born November 13, 1917 in Washington County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Thurman and Edna M. (Kidd) Taylor. She and her first husband, Carl Chamblin, were dairy farmers in Monroe County for a number of years. She was proud to have been able to milk 14 cows, by hand, by herself. Thelma was a member of Bartlett United Methodist Church in Bartlett, Ohio.

Thelma is survived by: a step-son: Ralph Humphrey of Shelby; 2 daughters-in-law: Grace Chamblin of Beallsville and Cecile Humphrey of Akron; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 9 step-great grandchildren; a brother: Eric Taylor of Marietta; a sister: Wilma Johnson of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by: her first husband: Carl Chamblin in 1978; her second husband: Lauren Humphrey in 1999; a son: Dale Chamblin; a step-son: Ronald Humphrey: a daughter-in-law: Lena Humphrey; 2 step-grandchildren: Patricia Humphrey and Roger Crager, Jr.; 5 brothers: Floyd Taylor, Clarence Taylor, Irvin Taylor, Orrie Taylor, and Elmer Taylor; a sister: Ethel Taylor.

Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 PM with Rev. Brad McBee officiating. Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 1 PM at the Bartlett Cemetery in Wesley Township, Washington County, Ohio with Pastor Jeff Hancock of the Bartlett United Methodist Church officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

    Thelma was an exceptional lady. My introduction to her was when Lauren brought her to our house to introduce his new wife! A surprise and delight! Always had a soft spot in my heart for cousin Lauren and Thelma is right there with him.

    We met Thelma when Lauren first started getting serious with her. It was great to see two people falling in Love. When we moved them to Bartlett it was like losing a family member. We stayed close all thru the years, she will be missed by all but now her and Lauren are together in Heaven. Love and miss you both.
