Susan Marie Athy
Susan Marie Athy, age 60, of Shelby, died Wednesday evening, March 16, 2016 at OhioHealth Marion General Hospital.
Susan was born October 20, 1955 in Bucyrus to the late Leonard Anthony and Bernadette (Falter) Holmer. She was a 1973 graduate of Seneca East High School and raised her family as a homemaker. Susan was a kind and gentle woman who was a fantastic wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed following all of her children’s activities and was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
On June 23, 1984, Susan married Paul K. Athy at Reed Assumption Catholic Church in Reed Township. Together, they have two children who survive: Lisa (Kyle) McKerrow of Pennsylvania and Ryan P. (fiancé Cara) Athy of Ashland. Also surviving are two grandchildren: Owen and Alexander McKerrow; and two sisters: Kathleen (Michael) Metzger of Shelby and Barbara Holmer of Shelby.
Calling hours and funeral services will be private with private burial in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery. Deacon Fred Stockmaster will officiate the services. Care for Susan and her family is being provided by Bob, Catherine and Jake at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Ohio, 2831 Prospect Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44115.
