Susan Lynne (McKinney) Schaich
Susan Lynne (McKinney) Schaich, age 54, of Lawrenceburg, passed away unexpectedly on Monday evening, December 26, 2022.
Susan was born September 5, 1968 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Rev. J.C. and Ruth Edna (Ellison) McKinney. She was a 1986 graduate of William Henry Harrison High School and went on to further her education at Northern Kentucky University, receiving her Bachelor of Education in 1991. Susan began her teaching career at Christ Centered Preschool and at Harrison Christian School. In the Fall of 1997, she was employed by Southwest Local School District, starting at the Jr. High School, then transferring to Harrison High as an Intervention Specialist where she worked for 18 years. It was in the school year of 2015 that she moved to Whitewater Valley Elementary School until 2021 when the new schools were built. In the Fall of 2021, Susan began working at the new Miami Whitewater Elementary School where she was still currently employed. It was those kiddos that stole her heart. Susan spent her career devoted to her students- she was their biggest cheerleader and loudest advocate. She treated her students as her own children and would do anything for them leading her to gaining the nickname, “Ma Schaich”.
Susan was full of life and truly lived hers to the fullest, embracing every single moment. From date nights and weekend getaways together with her husband, Sam, to traveling the world- there wasn’t any adventure she would miss out on. Susan will be remembered for her bright smile and comforting heart for others. There wasn’t a room that she didn’t light up. Susan’s faith in God was evident. She enjoyed being around those she loved most and spending time with them. Susan loved deeply and without boundaries. She adored her three daughters and was so proud of the women they have become.
On June 24, 1989, Susan married her husband of 33 years, Samuel Otto Schaich, and he survives. Also surviving are her three daughters: Hannah Schaich (Tony Consiglio) of Dayton, OH, Alexandra Schaich of Lawrenceburg, and Jordyn Schaich (Drew Reed) of Shelby, OH; two bonus grandbabies who loved their Susie: Dominic and Vincent; siblings: Rev. Rick (Jane) McKinney of Stearns, KY and Robin (David) Root of Williamsburg, KY; aunts and uncles: Helen (Jim) Lansaw, Claudia (James) McKinney, Dale (Shirley) McKinney, Don (Kathy) McKinney, and Bob (Jean) Ellison; her mother-in-law: Lois Schaich; siblings-in-law: Deb (Don) Stutz, Pam (Barrie) Fleetwood, Brenda (Steve) Williams, and Merri Carol (John) Patterson; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of many friends. In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Eugene Lawrence Schaich.
The family would like to thank her Southwest Local School District family- Mia Neckel, the staff, and kiddos of Miami Whitewater Elementary for your constant love and support, the Bright Volunteer Fire and EMS for your quick and careful assistance, and certainly all of our friends, family, and our community for the kind words and comfort you have all provided us. We are truly grateful.
Family and friends are welcome on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 3-7 pm at Legacy Christian Church, 216 N Sycamore Street, Harrison, and also on Saturday, December 31, 2022 from 10-11am. Funeral services will immediately follow the hour of visitation Saturday morning at 11 am. Susan’s brother, Rev. Rick McKinney will officiate and private burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery, Harrison. For those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Susan’s name, the family has asked that they are directed to Southwest Local School District- In Memory of Mrs. Susan Schaich, where an account will be created to support students in need at Miami Whitewater Elementary, 10800 Campbell Road, Harrison, OH 45030 or to the Bright Fire & EMS, 23759 Brightwood Drive, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025.

My heart griefs for you all. Much love and prayers are coming your way.
My deepest sympathy to the family of this wonderful woman. We had many great times while working at WHHHS.
Susan Schaich had a heart of gold. And Every word of this true she was Ma Schaich treated me and many other students as if we were her kids. Never took no for a answer she pushed you cause she seen the greater good in all her students. Susan and her sister Robin both never gave up on any students or me. I owe a lot to both of them. May she rest in peace now. She truely was a angel.
My husband and I just met Susan and Sam in August of this year. We were all staying at Via Roma Beach Resort in Florida. We spent much of the week in the pool talking. Susan talked alot about her years of teaching of her kids. We felt such a connection with them both and hoped we would have many more years of “beach week” together. Our hearts are broken for Sam and their kids. We are sending prayers of peace and comfort.
I am so sorry for this major loss to your family. Susan was my friend and fellow classmate in 1986. I have never felt anything but positive vibes from her. Always smiles and kindness. Be assured, prayers are continuing to be sent for your amazing family.
Mindy
Sympathy and prayers to Jordan and her family! Your mom sounded like a pretty awesome lady!
When I close my eyes and think of Susan, she is smiling that great big smile and ready to have fun. She frequently sent me texts asking what was happening or what was new in Carmel, as she and Sam would be coming up the following weekend. Susan and Sam tried out all of the hotels, so I knew where to send family and friends who came to visit. The last time they were in town, we met them at Savor for dinner and when we arrived, they were in the bar chatting up the bartender who knew them by name. He even brought Susan a special cocktail that he made just for her. I eat there all of the time and I don’t know ANYONE. Susan knew EVERYONE!
Last Saturday we were at Savor before Christmas Eve services, and I sent her a picture and said that I wished they were there. She said they would be up soon. She said that they had celebrated Christmas earlier that day and it “was absolutely wonderful”. She followed that with “We are so blessed!” Then we had a brief conversation about the birth of Christ and church services. She told me that their service “was a beautiful time of worship of our Savior!” I could not have imagined that a week later she would be one of the saints of Heaven. I am rejoicing for her through the tears.
My deepest sympathy to Sam, Hannah, Alexandra, Jordyn, Rick and Robin as well as the rest of the family and everyone who knew Susan. She was a blessing to all of us. Love to all. Jennifer
My sincere sympathy goes out to Susan’s family, friends and students, past and present. She will be fondly remembered and missed until our Heavenly reunion.
My condolence to the family. I’m so sorry to hear this. Praying for God’s peace and comfort. Love you all.
I had the pleasure of working with Susan at Whitewater Valley Elementary School. She was a wonderfully caring teacher and always had a smile on her face. I know she is watching over her family, friends, and students from Heaven. May God comfort all who are hurting from her loss.
I am so so sorry for your loss- she is truly going to be missed by us all. She was such a bright light in our day and had a beautiful smile. I know she loved her family deeply- she always lit up talking about you all. Sending love and prayers in the days and weeks and months to come. (((Hugs)))

Jordyn,
Bill and I are so very sorry for the loss of your mother. She sounds like such a lovely, Godly women. We are praying for your family for comfort that comes from our Lord.
I first met Susan a few years ago as an IT support person but having been a special education consultant for the district in the early 90’s she and I enjoyed relating about the services she was providing and the educational needs of her students. She obviously deeply cared for her students and accepted the challenges of working in that field. I felt privileged to know her as an educator and as a friend. This is so heartbreaking. She will be missed by so many. My deepest condolences go out to her family in this most difficult time.
Oh Jordyn, my heart is broken for you! You were so wonderfully there for us in our loss, please know we are here for you too!
Jordyn,
Our hearts are broken for you. Your mother sounds like she was a wonderful person who lived and loved life to the fullest. May God guide you and your family in the coming days. We love you sweet girl.
My deepest sympathies for this difficult loss. I will always remember Susan’s bright smile and enthusiasm from our shared efforts in drama and music at Harrison High School years ago. May you find comfort and peace during this time.
Many many prayers and hugs to you. So very sorry about your unexpected loss.
Hugs and prayers Jordyn for you and your family.
I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful wife and mother. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you all.
Susan was my 4th grade teacher at Christ Centered in Harrison. I really liked her and I can remember Hannah being little and also went to school there. We all would hug and kiss on Hannah and thought she was so cute. My parents let me invite her and her husband to dinner at our house because I liked her so much. I’m really sorry for the family to lose someone so important in their lives and so young. It’s a tragedy and you have my sympathy!
We have heartfelt sympathies for the Schaich family. We did not know your mother, but we know Jordyn and the wonderful work she does. It sounds like your mother was a very caring person who loved people. We never know “Why” but the memories you will cherish. We are thinking and praying for all of you.
Hugs,
Todd & Nancy Baird
I met the precious McKinney family when Susan was about 10 years old. Her father was my pastor and her mother provided daycare for my children. As a young teenager, Susan and other youth from church spent many hours at my home swimming and filling it with much laughter…how I cherished those moments. Susan’s heart was ever so bright and I could not have loved her and her family any more than I do. Heaven gained a very bright and beautiful angel. My heart breaks for Sam and her girls…too young to be without your momma. She certainly loved you! My prayers are with you.
Susan could light up any room she walked into with her beautiful laughter and smile. I feel so blessed to have known her for over 30 years. Her love for life and her family was made evident in everything she did or said. Sam, Hannah, Jordyn and Alex, I am so sorry for your loss and the headache you are going through. Please know your entire family will forever be in my daily thoughts and prayers.
So sorry for your loss. Your Mom sounded like a wonderful person.
Dear Sam, Jim and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. Though we haven’t seen you in a number of years we remember Susan as such a sweet loving wife and mother. Our prayers are with you and your family. Love Jane and Jim Fliehman

Words of sympathy feel inadequate in expressing grief and sorrow for a loss so great. Wishing you peace and comfort in these difficult days.
Susan was a great teacher and taught my daughter Nicole at the Jr high and high school. My thoughts and prayers to Susan’s family! She will be missed by so many! Another angel got her wings!
She always had a big bright smile on her face! She will be terribly missed. I cannot imagine the pain that all of you are in right now. Hugs and prayers for peace and comfort
It is still so very hard for us to believe that Susan has left this earth and is at home with her Heavenly Father. Her faith has become sight. She is seeing Jesus. Oh how we will miss her amazing smile, her beauty, her incredible heart of love, acceptance, kindness and her incredibly fun spirit. We will miss having double dates and discussing what is on all of our hearts with incredible transparency. We will miss seeing her amazing Facebook posts of encouragement and positivity, as well as pictures of times spent traveling to amazing places and/or fun date nights with Sam, and posts about fun times spent with her beautiful girls. Being 10 years older than her, we have watched her grow up into a talented and beloved educator, amazing wife (she was the most gorgeous bride!), loving mother, and to us, most importantly, she was not only our cousin but also our precious friend. We are praying for you Sam, Hannah, Alex and Jordyn. We love each of you dearly. ❤️
Dear Sam and family,
I am so sorry. We will pray for Susan and all of your family. God bless.
Susan was such a beautiful soul. I met her 2 years ago through Facebook with a shared love of makeup. Susan was always so supportive and loving. Although I was never able to meet her in person I truly feel that I’ve known her for years. So many prayers to Susan’s family and friends.
Words can not express what a joy Susan was to our family. I can remember going to parent teacher conferences with her bright smile. Always positive and uplifting. I can still see her rolling her scrapbooking luggage, she said it was just a bag () to fill in the time between meetings. We always knew she was a precious human being and came to realized her entire family carries her same sparkle. We know when you closed your eyes here you immediately saw the face of our Savior and all the love ones who have went before you. Brings to mind the song that says there’s no tears in Heaven but when all the life’s you’ve touched here meet you in Heaven I know you will weep tears of joy.

Sending my deepest condolences. I don’t think I can remember Susan ever not smiling. She’ll be greatly missed. Love and prayers!

Susan was my daughters IS two years ago at WVE. She was always so kind and caring and had a heart of gold.
I work & volunteer at MWE where I saw and spoke with her often. I love her smile, love for life and her love of going out on the town and living life to its fullest.
She will be dearly missed and I pray for her husband and daughters during this very challenging time.
Susan and Sam have been special friends to Dan and I as well as our daughters Hanna and Erica. You will be missed Susan
Jordyn, we are very sad for you and your family to hear of the loss of your Mother. God bless and be with you all.
Before leaving Sunman-Dearborn Middle School and relocating for my husband’s job, I had the pleasure of working with Hannah and Alex. I had the opportunity to meet Susan at Open House, and we communicated by phone and email while I was working with the girls. It was clear that Susan was the heart and soul of the family. As a teacher, I was so appreciative of the support given to me while working with the girls. It was a team effort as I assume it was at home. I created a scrapbook of my time at S-DMS, and I have an email from Susan in the scrapbook. She shared some kind words as we prepared to move, and they meant a lot to me. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this most difficult time. My son attended, both Christ Centered, and Harrison Christian School, and my daughter attended Southwest Local Schools. I did not know Susan personally, but live next to Legacy Church, and the love and respect for her, and her family, is clearly evident, by the number of people who have come out to show what she meant to them. May God grant you peace, until you are once again reunited.
I was saddened to hear of the passing of my first cousin Susan. My memory of Susan is one that she was a very upbeat, vivacious person, with a zest and ambition for life. Her career pursuits are evidence of her caring and compassionate nature for others. My thoughts and prayers go out to her immediate family and the McKinney family at this sudden loss.
No words can adequately express my sincere condolences. Praying for peace & comfort to you all.
