Susan L. Swanger

Susan L. Swanger, age 77, of Shelby, died Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.

She was born December 5, 1940 in Shelby the daughter of the late Kenneth and Lois (Gates) Roethlisberger. Sue was a 1958 graduate of Maine Township High School in Park Ridge, Illinois and attended Elkhart University of Medical and Dental Technique in Elkhart, Indiana. For over 30 years, she worked for Dr. Norman L. Straw, MD in Shelby. At Dr. Straw’s retirement, Sue went to work at Hi-Stat Manufacturing in Lexington for 13 years. She was a member of First Christian Church in Shelby. Sue enjoyed collecting antiques, Royal Daulton, and Santa Clauses of all kinds. She had been a member of the Royal Daulton Ohio Chapter and Shelby Genealogy Club.

On November 13, 1960, she married Kenneth L. “Larry” Swanger and he preceded her in death on April 11, 2007. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a sister: Marijo Berman; and a brother-in-law: James L. Swanger.

Sue is survived by her husband’s siblings and their spouses: Beverly Swanger, Charles (Lorraine) Swanger, Douglas (Lorraine) Swanger, and Marilyn (Tommy) Watts; 3 nieces and a nephew: Ruth Tulk, Cathy Westgate, Vicki Reichard, and Jim Berman; and a cousin: Steve Suter.

Family and friends are welcome on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 2-3 pm at PENWELL TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3 pm and burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to Shelby Helpline Ministries.
