Sherman “Toots” Brown

Sherman “Toots” Brown, age 83, of Plymouth, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at his home.

Sherman was born October 22, 1937 in Paintsville, KY to the late Will Press and Mollie (Fletcher) Brown.  For 10 years, he was employed with the New York Central Railroad prior to a 33-year career at the Tuby in Shelby. He retired in 1995 under the Copperweld ownership. Sherman raised coon hounds and loved to run his beagle hounds and hunt at night. He also thoroughly enjoyed going thrifting.

Sherman was a very selfless man who always put others ahead of himself. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Brown of Shelby; his children: Kayleen (Todd) Brown of Galion, Jeffrey (Judy) Brown of Mansfield, DaWanna Johnson of Shelby, Lisa Kegley (Kenneth Porter) of Mansfield, and R. Allen Steagall of Shelby; 10 grandchildren, including: Terra (Justin) Richardson, Ashley Brown, Todd (Jessica) Brown, II, and Amanda Joseph; numerous great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Dorothy Holbrook and Fran Shaw; mother-in-law: Ila Williams; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Dorsea Jean; 6 brothers: Willis “Buck”, Roy, John, Burns, Raman, and Jack; and a great granddaughter: Isabella Renea Caudell.

Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, January 24, 2021 from 2-5 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be conducted on Monday, January 25, 2021 at 10:30 am. Rev. Rick Lewis will officiate the services and burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org/donate.

Unfortunately I can not attend, due to my autoimmune disease and covid (its right on top of my injection date) so I am so sorry…please know that I wish I could be there! I love you guys!!!!!
