Sharon Ann Sifferlin

Sharon Ann Sifferlin, age 75, of Shelby, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, January 4, 2021 at her home with her family by her side.

Sharon was born March 22, 1945 in Richland County, Ohio to the late Leonard Kenneth and Beatrice Mae (Huss) McFarland. She was a 1963 graduate of Union High School. A love story began over 57 years ago when Sharon was introduced to a co-worker’s brother, James E. Sifferlin, at Smitty’s Drive-In in Shelby. They married on August 19, 1963 and, in their 57 years of marriage, raised four children and watched their family grow to what it is today. Anyone who knew Sharon knew that she shined in her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother. Above all things, her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, as they, by far, were her greatest joy and fuel for survival. Although Sharon had illness her entire life, she herself was resilient, strong, and non-complaining, and taught her family, by example, how to keep surviving.

Together with Jim, the couple had many tremendous friends that they enjoyed spending time with wherever they were. Their travels over the years took them all over the United States of America, including Hawaii, and also to the Caribbean many times and throughout Europe. They most especially loved to travel annually to their family cabin, built by Jim, at Lake De Bois in Quebec, Canada. Most recently, they took pleasure in wintering to Mesa, AZ, where Sharon relished the sun’s consistence, beauty, and warmth.

Sharon was extremely talented and creative- from decorating her home pristinely and keeping it meticulous to helping make all of her children award winning themed papier-mâché’ Halloween costumes when they were little. She was an excellent cook and annually canned all the produce from the garden her husband had planted. She was also an awesome seamstress and had also been a 4-H advisor for many years. Doing all of this while also being the secretary for Jim’s business, Sifferlin Machine.

Her husband, Jim, survives along with her children and grandchildren: Jeff (Annette) Sifferlin of Shelby and their children: Jeffrey Sifferlin, Brandy (Brent) Smith, and Brianna Sifferlin; Theresa (Rodney) Stumbo of Shelby and their daughters: Brittany and Ashley Stumbo; Laura Sifferlin of Powell and her son Derek Sifferlin; and Scot (Carrie) Sifferlin of Plymouth and their children: Tristin Porter, Reese Sifferlin, and Nash Sifferlin; great grandchildren: Faith, Layken, Lilly, and Avery; a sister: Carolyn (Ralph) Eichelberger; in-laws: Susan Christopher, JoAnne Waldruff, Shirley Gray, and Eddie Sifferlin; and numerous other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Betty Stanley, Kenneth McFarland, David McFarland, and Robert McFarland.

Sharon was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 29 West Street, Shelby, where she had been a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and had been a collection counter for many years. Her funeral mass will be held at the church on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 10:30 am with Msgr. Dennis Metzger serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are welcome on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 4-7 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
