Sandra Lee “Sandy” Burkhart

Sandra Lee “Sandy” Burkhart, age 77, of Crestline, died early Saturday morning, February 17, 2018 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.

Sandy was born June 10, 1940 in Shelby, the daughter of the late Russell Laverne and Emma Gertrude (Dick) Apger. Sandy thoroughly enjoyed crafts and attended craft shows with her husband, Joe, making bowls to hold the candles he had made. Sandy was a pet lover- especially her dogs and African parrot, JJ. She loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sandy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Crestline.

On July 3, 1960, Sandy married Joseph Leo Burkhart and he survives. Also surviving are two sons: Shawn (Nanette) Burkhart of Crestline and Christopher (Nanaho) Burkhart of Bremerton, Washington; 4 grandchildren: Craig (Erica) Burkhart, Sarah (Nathan) Hiler, Sakura Burkhart, Haruka Burkhart; 3 great grandchildren: Jaxon Hiler, Bexley Hiler, Ella Burkhart; 4 sisters: Charlene Briggs of Shelby, Janice Donnenwirth of Mansfield, Shirley Dewitt of North Carolina, and Sue Lewis of Shelby. In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by: 2 sisters: Dorothy Bailey and Bonnie Jean Apger; and 4 brothers: Russell Apger, Jr., William Richard Apger, Dean Edward Apger, and Harold Elwin Apger.

At Sandy’s request there will be not calling hours or funeral services. Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Crestline will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Funeral Dinner Coordinators.
