Ruth Joan Griffith

Ruth Joan Griffith, age 91, of Shelby, died Thursday, July 12, 2018 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.
She was born March 26, 1927 in Butler, PA the daughter of John and Evelyn (Eshenbaugh) Waldenmyer. Ruth graduated from high school in West Sunbury, PA and moved to this area in the 1960’s. She began her working career at United Telephone in Shelby in 1962 and progressed through mergers and acquisitions to retire from Sprint in Mansfield in 1990. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Shelby where she had been a Sunday school teacher and was also a member of Eastern Star Harmony Chapter #43.
Ruth enjoyed her once a month lunch outing with her friends from Sprint and making cookies with her daughter Darlene for the Kids Summer Lunch Program in Shelby. Her hobbies included quilting, crafts, reading, playing solitaire and solving word search puzzles. She was also a sports fan, following all Ohio State boys’ and girls’ sports, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Cavs, and Cleveland Indians. However, her greatest joy was her family and following all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities.
She is survived by her 3 daughters: Nancy Griffith, Darlene (Stan) Ingram, Marlene (Ron) Burkhalter all of Shelby; 4 grandchildren: Heidi (Chad) Niese, Bart (Sarah) Ingram, Randy (Jennifer) Shaver, Shelly Wagers (Josh Strohm); 10 great grandchildren: Victoria, Sophia, Charlotte, Carson, Kendallyn, Lillian, Olivia Shaver, Griffin Shaver, Marissa Wagers (Logan Bradshaw), Kenzie Wagers (Tyler Hatcher); 1 great great granddaughter: Kenna Marie Bradshaw; a sister: Jane (Bud) Williams of Butler, PA; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Ralph W. Griffith in 2006, and infant daughter: Linda Griffith in 1948 and by 2 brothers: Dale and William Waldenmyer.
Although no public service will be held in Ruth’s memory, her family hopes that you will hold her in your heart as you remember her in your own special way. Memorial expressions may be made to Shelby Athletic Boosters, Ontario Athletic Boosters or Shelby YMCA.
