Ruth Ester Johnson Caris

Ruth Ester Johnson Caris, age 89, currently of Shelby and formerly of Fredericktown, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 9, 2014 at the home of her youngest granddaughter, Shannon, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

 Ruth was born December 7, 1924 in Mansfield, the youngest daughter of the late Elmer and Carrie Rodgers Johnson. On May 30, 1945 she married Warren Caris. They enjoyed 53 long years of marriage before he passed away in 1998.

Ruth was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to travel going to gospel sings with her daughter and rejoiced in the blessings God shared with her. Ruth was a member of Galion First Church of God.

 She is survived by: her only child, Toni Jardon of Shelby; 4 grandchildren: Robin (John) Cartwright of Shelby, Charles Jardon of Shelby, Warren (Shelly) Jardon of Bellville, Shannon (Robert) Davidson of Shelby; 11 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Gladys Johnson and Rachael Mumaw; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: her beloved son-in-law: Charles Jardon; grandson-in-law: Steven Pickett; 4 brothers: Leonard, Willard, Ivan, and Milton Johnson; 3 sisters: Dorothy Valentine, Irma Barber, Maxine Wilham Damron; several nieces and nephews.

 Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 6-8 PM and on Thursday,  from 10-11 AM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday. Rev. Virgil Sheriff will officiate and burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery in Johnsville. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
