Roy Allen “Al” Steagall, Jr.
Roy Allen “Al” Steagall, Jr., age 55, of Shelby, died Thursday, January 19, 2023 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Although Al had a lengthy battle with multiple health issues, his death followed a brief and unexpected illness.
Al was born February 9, 1967 in Crestline, Ohio. He worked at various companies over the years including MTD Shelby, Dunlop Tire, and most recently, Media Link in Mansfield. Al was quick witted and was always making those around him laugh with his jokes. He was a loyal friend and a great cook. Al was an avid OSU fan and rooted for the Cleveland Browns- although they were constantly frustrating him. He enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, and being outside.
Above all, Al loved his children: Christopher (Deb) Grandstaff, Roy Allen Steagall, III, René Steagall, and Amanda Steagall (Terry Petty Jr.) and they survive him. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Tatum, Jayla, Jazlin, Ricky, Leeahna, RaeLynn, Skylar, and two on the way; siblings: Kelly (Randy) Wilmoth of Sutton, WV, Lisa (Jim) Kegley of Mansfield, and DaWanna Johnson of Shelby; special friends: Dena and Tim; and dear pets: Marley and Lucy; as well as other relatives and friends. Al was preceded in death by his father: Roy Allen Steagall, Sr.; mother: Cheryl Virginia (Maynor) Brown; daughter: Cheryl Ann Grandstaff; grandparents: Nadine and Nelson Steagall and Ila and Shelby Williams; great grandmother: Edith Workman; and great niece: Isabella Renea Caudell.
Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 5-7 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, OH 44875. Haven’t heard from or spoken to “Roy” for somewhere around 40yrs, but have thought of him over time. I have to say hearing this still saddens me. Another pc of the younger yrs gone too soon, but I’ll never forget how we teased but lovingly tormented each other as teenagers… Good ole days. Rest peaceful old friend. My condolences to all touched by his loss
