Rosemary Joan (Metzger) Keller
Rosemary Joan Keller, age 87, a lifelong Shelby Settlement resident, died Monday evening, October 14, 2013 at her home.
Rosemary was born in Shelby on May 11, 1926, the daughter of the late Clement and Mae (Sutter) Metzger. She was a graduate of Villa Maria Academy in Villa Maria, PA. As a loving mother, she spent the first 20 years of her married life at home with her children. Rosemary then worked at Pioneer Joint Vocational School, for the Department of Urban Renewal in the City of Crestline, and, along with her husband, Carl, owned and operated Keller’s Kork and Kap in Crestline.
To Rosemary, God and her church were first. A lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Bethlehem, she was active in all aspects of parish life including but not limited to: the Altar and Rosary Society, an original member of the Flower Committee keeping the altars and church beautifully decorated, a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Festival Committee, and was very instrumental in the restoration of church.
Rosemary loved to laugh and cherished time spent with her husband and family. Family gatherings filled her with joy and happiness. She enjoyed playing cards (especially pinochle), tending to her gardens and flowers, and canning. She was an excellent cook and pie maker, a trait she passed along to her daughters and daughters-in-law. Above all else, to her family she was a true role model and was much respected as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
On August 14, 1948, Rosemary married Carl F. Keller with whom she recently celebrated 65 years of marriage and he survives. Also surviving are 5 children: Rosanne (Bob) Conley of Crestline, Chuck (Cindy) Keller of Shelby, Cathy (Dave) LeMond of Senecaville, OH, Russ (Marti) Keller of Crestline, Christopher “Herm” (Karla) Keller of Crestline; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 step grandsons; 2 step great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Joe (Lynne) Metzger of Marion, Jim (Janice) Metzger of Chardon; 3 sisters: Lucy (Mark) Rietschlin of Shelby, Sr. Celine (Agnes) Metzger, HM of Villa Maria, PA, Loretta Paskert of Brooklyn, OH; 3 sisters-in-law: Louann Metzger of Shelby, Pat Metzger of CA, Alice Metzger of Shelby. Also surviving are Carl’s brothers and sister and their families. She was preceded in death by: 6 brothers: Hubert Metzger, Carl Metzger, Leo Metzger, John Metzger, Fr. Clement Metzger, SJ, infant Carl Joseph; a sister: Nellie Young.
At Rosemary’s request, there will be no calling hours. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Bethlehem Shelby Settlement with Fr. Michael Geiger celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. The family will greet friends for a time to celebrate Rosemary’s life in the parish hall where a meal will be provided immediately following the mass and burial. Please no flowers, but consider a memorial contribution to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Sacred Heart School, or Hospice of North Central Ohio. Care for Rosemary and her family has been provided by Bob, Catherine and Jake at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby.

So very sorry for the loss of Rosemary. She was such a sweet lady. When she would come in to the hospital for whatever she always stopped at the front desk and tell everything going on in Bethlehem and Crestline.
My prayers are with all of you.

I’m so sad to hear about Aunt Rosemary, she was so wonderful in so many ways. I think back on my childhood and know how blessed we were to be surrounded by such a strong, loving family; what I wouldn’t give to have the same for my kids. I’ll miss her greatly. May she rest in peace. Love, Jenny

God Bless Rosemary. Whether seeing her at church, their business in Crestline, or at the Crestline Schools Administration Building, she brightened my day with her smile and sweet words. She was always helpful in dealing with school issues. Many of us will miss those brief encounters with her. My sympathy to her husband and family.
