Ronald William Crall

Ronald William Crall, age 74, of Greenwich, died Saturday evening, December 16, 2017 at his home after an eight year battle with ALS.

Ron was born July 24, 1943 in Shelby, the son of the late William Robert and Mabel Mary (Barnd) Crall. He was a 1961 graduate of Ruggles-Troy High School and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. Ron received an associates degree in accounting from Oberlin Business School and worked as an accountant for 33 years for Ford Motor Company, Lorain. Ron was a full-time farmer his entire life. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and trapper, lifetime member of the NRA. Continuing his parents’ legacy to the Ashland County Park District for the formation of Crall Woods, a National Natural Landmark, Ron and his wife, Kolleen, gifted an additional 275 acres for Crall Family Nature Area.

Ron was very active in his community volunteering and was always helping neighbors and friends. A Christian man, Ron had received a diploma from Rhema Bible Training Correspondence School. He was always an active parishioner and volunteer in his local church. Ron was a lay leader, helped with accounting, a children’s minister, and an Elder/Administrator at Christ Kingdom Community Church in Ashland.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Kolleen M. (Denslow) Crall, whom he married December 6, 1997. Also surviving are 6 children: Darrell (Lane) Crall of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Karen (Rick) Pollack of Shaker Heights, Erica Stevens of Ontario, Matt Kellem (Amy Holmes) of Ashland, Dorea Kellem Crall of Ashland, and Grace Crall at home; 8 grandchildren: Sarah Caroline, Davis, Nicole, Rouie, Jeff, Julia, Joel, and Raina; a brother: Robert J. (Jinny) Crall of Buford, GA; a sister: Nancy (Doug) Sweeten of Burlington, KY; In-laws: Thomas R. (Nancy) Denslow of Vermillion; nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and his faithful dog, Skye. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Donald Crall, and mother-in-law: Nancy Barnett.

Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 6-8 pm at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am. Friends may also visit an hour prior to the funeral services Wednesday from 10-11 am. His wife, Kolleen, will lead the services with assistance from Pastors Dr. Christopher and Denese Hall of Christ Kingdom Community Church. Military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Ashland County Park District or Christ Kingdom Community Church.

    I’m so sorry we won’t be able to attend the funeral. Uncle Ronny will be missed. I have many fond memories of playing monopoly and throwing frisbe with him when I was little. He always came to visit our house and would wash my mom’s car and sharpen her knives. Kolleen and Grace, you are in my thoughts during this difficult time.
