Roger Joseph Weaver

Roger Joseph Weaver, age 74, of Shelby, died peacefully on Saturday, February 5, 2022 surrounded by his family at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.

Roger was born February 17, 1947 in Shelby to the late Joseph B. and Dolores P. (Eberl) Weaver. He was a 1965 graduate of Shelby High School and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany from 1966-1968. Roger worked at Case-Maul Manufacturing in Mansfield prior to spending the majority of his career at PPG in Crestline retiring in 2005 after 37 years of service.

Roger was well known as a practical joker who used his ornery personality and different tools such as rubber bands and laser pointers to tease and bring smiles to people’s faces. His laugh was infectious as others being teased chuckled along with him. As a hobby, Roger was an amateur radio operator operating under the license number WM8I and, with his wife, Barb, was a member of the Crawford County Amateur Radio Club. He and Barb also enjoyed frequent breakfast trips to Ted & Ali’s and Hunger Paynes. Roger also had a deep love for his late dog, Cujo, whom they enjoyed taking with them on their daily adventures and always made sure he had a little bit of something extra from the left-over meal.

On June 6, 1970 Roger married Barbara A. (Ebbert) Weaver and she survives. Also surviving are his children: Kathy Gruber of Findlay, Dan (Barb) Weaver of Galion, Debbie (Jordan) Louk of Shelby, and Jeff Weaver of Shelby; nine grandsons: Joseph Weaver, Justin Gruber, Ben Weaver, Cole Gruber, Caleb Clagg, Sam Weaver, Dylan Clagg, Lucas Weaver, and Nathan Weaver; siblings: Donald (Margaret) Weaver, Gerald Weaver, Ed (Marian) Weaver, and Peggy Mowery; sister-in-law: Linda Weaver; brother-in-law: Tom (Doris) Ebbert; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brother: Tim Weaver and sister: Sally Horner.

Roger was an active member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church where he sang in the choir. Family and friends are welcome at the church, 5742 State Route 61, Shelby, on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 10-11 am where Roger’s funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11 am. Fr. Jeff Smith will celebrate Mass with military honors, conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail, at the conclusion. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
