Robert “Ray” Tunney

Robert “Ray” Tunney, age 78, of Shelby, died Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Med Central Shelby Hospital.

He was born April 17, 1935 in West Brownsville, PA the son of the late Clifford and Mabel (McCleary) Tunney. He was a graduate of California High School in California, PA. Ray was a supervisor at Firestone in Shelby and retired after 28 years of service. After his retirement, he was the canteen manager for the Shelby Eagles for 10 years. Ray loved to play golf at Woody Ridge and was an avid gardener and Pittsburgh Steeler fan. However his greatest joy was his family whom he adored. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are his wife: Shirley Heath Tunney, whom he married on January 4, 1961; a daughter: Susan (Marvin) Jose of Shelby; a son: Bob (Rhonda) Tunney of Shelby; 4 granddaughters: Trisha (Craig) Harvey, Jessica Jose, Terri Tunney, Lorraine Tunney; a great grandson: Karsen Homan;  a step grandson: Travis (Tricia) Rieman; step great granddaughters: Hannah, Allyssa, Kassidy Rieman; a brother: Walter Tunney and a sister: Kathleen Holzapfel both of PA. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 2 sisters.

 Family and friends are welcome on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 5-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to Shelby Helpline Ministries, 29 ½ Walnut Street, Shelby, OH  44875.

    Sorry to hear about loss of Ray. He was one of my many Supervisors I had many years ago while working for Firstone at C.O.I.P. He was a fair and honest man. May he R.I.P. And may God Bless him and his Family.

    Prayers to the Tunney Family. Your father/husband was one of a kind. amazing, smart funny…. to say the least. There is not many childhood memories I have that didn’t revolve around their home. He took me in when my own father didn’t with open arms and for that I will forever be grateful. I remember the many trips to Pa to visit family(Go Steelers!!!!) camping trips ect… he could make a stranger feel welcome. R.I.P. Ray I will always have a spot in my heart for you. Love ya
