Robert R. “Bob” Baker

Robert R. “Bob” Baker, age 85, of Shelby, went home to be with his Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning, December 29, 2015 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital after a short bought with cancer.

Bob was born June 11, 1930 in Rome, Ohio, the oldest child of the late Maurice and Margaret Vione (Backensto) Baker. He was a 1948 graduate of Plymouth High School. For 42 years Bob worked at Shelby Salesbook where he worked on a press and retired as a foreman. While working at the Salesbook he also was a police officer for eight years for the Village of Plymouth. Bob was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, gardening, and his dogs. He also enjoyed working on the family farm years ago.

Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara C. (Parsley) Baker, whom he wed on August 6, 1983. Also surviving are 7 children: Linda (Larry) Kennard of Shiloh, Kay (Larry) Williams of Mansfield, Marsha (Dale) Cline of Shelby, Steven (Dawn) Baker of Mansfield, Gloria (Jerry) Slagle of Willard, Blane (Roni) Baker of Phoenix, AZ, and Blair Baker of Willard; 2 step-children: Kellie Baker of Mansfield and Chris Conley of Shelby; 13 grandchildren: 22 great grandchildren: 8 siblings: Dave (Sandy) Baker of Shelby,  Donna Jean Kamann of Willard, Betty (Larry) Vredenburgh of Plymouth, Duane (Florence) Baker of Plymouth, Maurice Baker, Jr. (Susan Franklin) of Plymouth, Dixie (John) Hart of Plymouth; Vickie Resendez of Plymouth, and Cindy (Doug) Smith of Shiloh; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Karen Baker.

Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, January 3, 2016 from 2-5 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 AM. Pastor Lester Champer of the Shelby Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shelby Church of the Nazarene or Shelby Senior and Community Center.
