Robert N. “Bob” Chew
Robert N. Chew, age 77, of Shelby, died Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Crestwood Care Center.
He was born July 3, 1937 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of the late Matthew Kates and Seville “Dollie” (Wyckoff) Chew. Bob was a 1955 graduate of Shelby High School, attended Ashland College and served in the Naval Reserves. He was a pressman at Shelby UFORMA, retiring after nearly 50 years of service. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Shelby Knights of Columbus – 3rd Degree. Bob enjoyed fishing and boating on Seneca Lake and attending all of grandchildren’s events. He was an avid sports fan rooting for his favorite Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He spent many hours with his lap dog and faithful companion, Lucky.
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy M. (Whisler) Chew, whom he wed on June 14, 1958; 2 children: Richard A. (Jennifer) Chew and Michael Chew both of Shelby; 4 grandchildren: Natasha (Donnie) Ostrander, Cole Chew, Allison Chew, Danica Chew; 2 great grandchildren: Mersades and Landyn Ostrander, and soon-to-be Myla Ostrander; Close family friend: Keelynn; A brother: Matthew (Lucille “Tillie”) Chew of Arizona; a sister: Jann Chew of Shelby; 3 sisters-in-law: Jane Chew, Florence (Warren) Schneider, Mary (Dave) Metzger all of Shelby. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Phillip Chew.
Friends and family are welcome on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where a Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 7:45 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 AM at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father James Sanford officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made to the The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to St. Mary School or the Church.
