Robert Leroy “Bob” Sweet, Jr.

Robert Leroy “Bob” Sweet, Jr., age 65, of Mansfield, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, November 29, 2021.

Bob was born March 15, 1956 in Mansfield to the late Donna Irene (Tackett) and Robert Leroy Sweet, Sr. He was a graduate of Madison High School. Bob was a hardworking man who retired this past March from AK Steel where he had worked for 35 ½ years. Although work was a big part of his life, Bob always was enthusiastic about cars, loved going for drives and trips to Malabar, and enjoyed eating out at Bob Evans and Cracker Barrel.

Bob is survived by his children: Adam (Josselynn) Sweet and Rachael (Keith) Westler both of Mansfield; 7 grandchildren: Alexia, Trey, Amelia, Lucy, Mitchell, Nicholas, and Mallorie; 3 sisters: Pamela (Quillie) Dasher of Mansfield, Sandra (Gary) Osborn of Florida, Connie Hinesly of WY; a brother-in-law: Paul Dasher; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Mary Funk and Peggy Dasher; and a nephew: Aaron Dasher.

Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 5-7 pm at the Penwell Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where funeral services will immediately follow at 7 pm. Rev. O. Douglas Tackett will officiate the services. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.

    I was fortunate enough to get to know Bob through working at the Steel Mill. Bob was quick witted, a hard worker, very meticulous, always had the coffee ready to go. I truly enjoyed working him on my crew every day. Just a great guy. You will be missed. My condolences to the family.
