Robert Lee “Bob” Turner, Sr.
Robert Lee “Bob” Turner, Sr., age 83, of Shadyside, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 28, 2014 at his home.
Born in Byesville on June 5, 1931, he was the son of the late Joe & Ethel (Zavodsky) Turner. He was a 1949 graduate of Powhatan High School. After high school, he was a corporal in the US Army serving in Korea from 1950-1952. After his honorable discharge from the service, he was employed with the Tri-State Asphalt Company and then retired after 32 years of service from the Ormet Corporation in Hannibal. For several years following retirement, Bob worked for Allen’s Landscaping.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved preparing the fish and wild game and was also an avid wine maker. Bob had many friends at the Blue Angel and the former Haps in Bellaire. He was a member of the Shadyside American Legion post #521 and the Bellaire V.F.W. post #626. On June 13, 1953, Bob married Mary DeFelice who preceded him in death on June 28, 2013 after 60 years of marriage. Surviving are four children: Robert (Catherine) Turner of Shelby; Mary Chuckery (Don Crozier) of Shadyside; Louis (Heather) Turner of Springfield; and Joanne Misenhelder of Bridgeport. Eight grandchildren: Aaron Turner of Lexington; Adam (Elizabeth) Turner of Beavercreek; Alyse Turner of Shelby; Antonia, Annmeri, and Dominic Turner of Springfield; Stephanie Chuckery of Bellaire and Anthony Chuckery of Shadyside; 1 great-granddaughter, Christa Berry. Also surviving are 3 sisters and a brother, Pearl Turner of Shadyside; Sylvia McGuire of Powhatan Point; Gloria Turner of Panama City Beach, Florida; Dick (Jean) Turner of Beallsville; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Ollom in 2003 and twin brothers who died in infancy.
Friends may call on Friday, August 1, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home, 441 37th Street, Bellaire where funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 2, at 10:30 AM with Fr. Samuel R. Saprano officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Bellaire, with full military graveside services conducted by Belmont County Veterans Association. Memorial expressions may be made to Wounded Warriors or Salvation Army. Funeral arrangements are being handled by his son, Bob, and his staff from the Turner Funeral Home, Shelby.
