Robert H. Deruy

Robert H. Deruy, age 81, of Shelby, died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital.

He was born May 18, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan and was a graduate of North Fairfield Ohio High School. As a young man he worked at the former Wilkins Air Force Depot in Shelby where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Auck. They were married on November 21, 1953 and on February 19, 2012 she preceded him in death.

Bob retired from the Shelby Post Office after many years of service.  He and his wife, Dorothy, spent 18 of their retirement winters in Myrtle Beach where they had many friends that became their second family. Bob was a lifelong Detroit Tiger fan and enjoyed watching any and all sports on TV. His greatest joys were times spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons: Robert C. (Viki) Deruy of Shelby and Michael E. (Paula) Deruy of Powell; his grandchildren: Cari (John) Gauld of Brewer, Maine, Keli (Norman) Eckel of Perrysburg, Courtney Deruy, Mitchell Deruy and Alexis Deruy all of Powell; a great grandson: Hunter Gauld; a sister: Bertha (Leroy) Seigfreid of Willard; his aunt: Jean Straley of Greenwich.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents: Dovie (Angel) and Emile Deruy.

Friends and family are welcome on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 5-7 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial expressions may be made to Shelby HelpLine Ministries.

    We did not know Bob very long. He was our neighbor on Leslie Lane. What we did get to know of him, he was a great man. Very fun to be around and easy to talk to.     We are so sorry to hear about the passing of Bob. We knew him for 16 years in Myrtle Beach. He and Dorothy were like our family. We spent a lot of time with them and enjoyed their company and especially Bob’s exceptional humour. We have kept in close touch with him through e-mail. He was anxious to be with his loving wife Dorothy. They were a very special couple and I know his family and friends are going to miss him a lot.
